Nice to get a win, even if UTSA is no great shakes. (weren't they pretty damn good over the last couple of years?).
Nice to see the newcomers in action. I know we were picked for last place by conference coaches, but I'm not so sure that is where we end up. We have some talent on this team, and they might be playing pretty well by the 2nd half of the Big 12 slate. These guys are going to really improve as they gain experience and get more and more used to each other.
Cam and Lindy provide solid, veteran leadership, and can be counted on to work hard and make an impact play when one is needed. DZ may never be a superstar, but he is clearly good enough to play at this level and provide more good than bad when he is on the floor.
The Center position is the real bugaboo for this team. Anei can play the role of rim protector, but isn't a great rebounder or scorer. KJones has good size and nice hands, but has a ways to go. Calloo isn't a true C, but might end up being the best option there when all is said and done. All 3 guys make a lot of freshmen mistakes on both ends, but the potential is there for bright futures (Caloo should get there before the other 2).
You gotta like Demuth's bball IQ and hustle. I'd like him a lot better if he could hit his FT at least 70% of the time. He's going to get to the line a lot, I think. He could be a good one with some added muscle and gradual improvements in other areas.
Likele is really good for a freshman, but he is clearly still a freshman. His mistakes won't be so glaring going forward, because Cunningham and Weathers will take a lot of pressure off of him, and he will be able to get more time on the bench to be coached up.
Luke Major really is the 2nd coming of Tyler Hatch. It's not often that you see a walkon with good height, who can give quality minutes without looking completely overmatched. He is strong enough, smart enough and talented enough to soak up some minutes when needed.
