Short term 3 week CR reached. Trump caves and government reopens. For now............

he's just testing the water...glad it's over however. I believe we need a wall for several areas of that border. It will come but not sure when. the dems will never approve it now but I think that border is a bit safer now but could have been made much safer. Be interesting to see what the deal was that was cut. A wall has to be part of the equation for border protection and I'm sure will be eventually. It became too big of a distraction. American people lose again but he's still making american great again!!!

They won't. Pelosi knows she gets reelected because of the fools she represents no matter how bad she destroys America.
True, but she might get Trump reelected if she shows the rest of the country they never intend to come together.

Looks like the President lost this battle. But as I learned long ago, it's the War you want to win.
Still a lot of drama to go. If the wall is so immoral, I wonder when Nancy is going to start working to get rid of the Wall that is in her own state?

Unlike the ex-rodent in chief, Trump does want Congress to come to terms with this and for him to sign a bill. He can still declare a national emergency and fund it. Trump will do everything to show good faith he tried to reach a compromise, it will help him in the court battle that would come if he declares a national emergency and he can say see, they shut down the government over this, I offered X compromises, they said no at every turn. Would not surprise me if he waits for the next caravan to hit our borders to declare the national emergency, he again then has a very specific reason to declare it, combined with past caravan's, combined with tons of statistical data gathered over years outlining all the damage and lives lost due to our open border. This is the long game Trump is playing, in previous lawsuits the libs used Trump's own words, specifically him not allowing people in from certain terrorist countries, in those lawsuits. Trump is building the case of compromise and trying to do everything he can to avoid a national emergency, and now he has all these tweets and comments recorded by the media on the Dem politicians unwilling to address the problem and even negotiate. Trump is going to weaponize exactly what the Dems did to him earlier, it is obvious this is what he is doing, although I do believe he truly wants to sign legislation, and sadly the Dems want to deny him that "political" victory over what is best for the country. He will have good evidence to show a judge this is all political and none of it about U.S. security. He now has the SCOTUS tilted conservative as well.

Pelosi gets anything she wants from Low IQ Donald.

ANYTHING.

Pelosi is Trump’s only lifeline.

Impeachment only happens at her command.

Will not be shocked if Con Man resigns the Presidency before Valentine’s Day...

I thought the same thing. Tell San Diego that walls are immoral and she’s taking the one down between them and Tijuana.

BJ...you seem like a smart fella so I'm not gonna try to be smarter. However, would you not agree that we need to do something about that southern border as we know it needs more attention than it's getting. I don't think you can do it with just technology...it's going to take several types of security to really try to make it difficult to cross illegally. The wall is just part of that list of things needed.
Unfortunately, the border is about 1/10 of the problem as the whole system is corrupt once illegals get in. Makes all the people who are going through the legal channels a scam. Everyone is losing. It needs to be changed. If they really want to get serious about all this then enforce the laws or change them and make it more difficult to come across...and that means whatever it takes to secure the border as a start. We can't even do that. It is a huge undertaking just to get things started...and trump isn't the first to try to do something about it.

I, actually, agree with all of this. I'm not opposed to a wall in certain places, and upgraded security in others. I don't believe a continuous wall, along the entirety of the Mexican border, is realistic or needed, however.

I am opposed to Trump shutting down the government and holding federal employees hostage to get what he/the GOP wants.

I stole this from a post on tMB

Why all the freaking out that Trump caved and lost this? Seems brilliant to me...

1. Reopen government, give employees back pay and 3 more weeks ahead
2. Opens in time for TSA to process Super Bowl teams and fans next week
3. SOTU is back on (Nancy will be exposed if she keeps it off) and Trump can eviscerate Dems to their face in front of the nation
4. We can all witness the empty chair for RBG, exposing this
5. Trump will tweet non-stop for 3 weeks about Dems' unwillingness to negotiate now that Gov't is back open, like they promised they would
6. Shut the bitch down again in 3 weeks and go to plan B, but clearly put this in Dems' laps and gives some relief to furloughed workers

After that declare the damn National Emergency or whatever...

Trump will not cave on the wall. It would end his chances at re-election. He will go down with the ship, no way he let's this tarnish his legacy. His ego and pride won't allow it

But Nancy can sit and not negotiate to get what she wants and hold the federal employees hostage? come on

She's not blameless. But, the shutdown is primarily on him. I'm not going to go into his Mexico will pay for it promise (it has been discussed ad nauseam already), or how I would have preferred he go about getting what he wants (my opinion doesn't really matter since he chose this route).

trumps wall was never anywhere close to covering the entire border...I think it was like 762 miles long and I've heard shorter than that. I also don't think we need a wall along the entire border. And lastly, both sides are to blame. when you just say no and make no move to negotiate you're not representing. But, I understand why the dems did this (at everyone's peril.) That's not good faith. This stuff never ends as there will be many more situations that need dealt with and I hope the dems don't think this is a way to get there.

Exactly. Yet, it has been represented as "give me the 7-8 B, and you will get a continuous wall across the entire border". I know those words were not said, but it has not been made clear to the public that he just wanted the money for a portion of the entire wall. That is one of the issues I have with how this has been handled.

And lastly, both sides are to blame. when you just say no and make no move to negotiate you're not representing.

They offered between 2-3 B. That is not "no move to negotiate". Donnie made it clear that it was all or nothing, and Mitch refused to pass the House proposal through the Senate because he knew that Trump would veto.

You all do realize that the President is not responsible for creating laws or allocating funds. That falls to Congress (or so I learned watching Mr. Bill Saturday mornings), which they have shown over and over again they do not want to do unless it personally benefits them in some manner. Trump was elected to somehow break the grid-lock that self-gratifying members of Congress don't want to. He tried and failed. All this does is remind me that the President is not the Dictator the left portray him to be, and that the US is more screwed than I thought. There may be no going back from this Socialist trajectory we are on. I used to work for Citgo when they had offices in Tulsa, and I could tell then that PDVSA and Venezuela were going down a path they could not sustain. Sadly we are now run by people just as dumb as those Venezuelans that operated PDVSA and reported to Chavez (at the time).

I actually don't have an issue with Trump doing this. Pelosi is not going to budge & those people were hurting & allegedly the airports were becoming unsafe.
