Highly suggested viewing (all three parts).

Jeff Sessions (and Big Pharma / Big Opioid) need to step back.

What's very interesting, is the difference in individual mj strains. Science hasn't been allowed to study why there's a big difference (science has only identified a fraction of mj compounds) -- but doctors / patients on the front lines of treatment definitely know.

Trump would get throw a lot of people for a loop, if he'd at the minimum decriminalize it.

I predict this happens just before the next election.

Would require legislative assistance to truly decriminalize.

He could take the Obama route and announce that possession arrests in states where it has been legalized by state law were not a priority and would not be pursued, but I don't think there is a chance in hell of him doing anything that even remotely smacks of Obama-like.

Could it be reclassified from a Schedule 1 drug to a 2 or 3? Does it have the same effect as leglislation?

The schedule is in legislation.

Regulatory agencies like the FDA, NIH, and DEA cannot alter the schedule unilaterally. FDA role is to provide scientific analysis and advice on the 8 factors that determine the proper schedule to be on to Congress, but any change in schedule requires a legislative change.

Thanks, I did not know that. And yeah, that's not passing.

I read some studies are showing that cannibis can improve brain injury recovery in the early stages.

It's the ultimate winning issue for the GOP, with almost no downsides:

  • Creates new jobs and industries (in an area where technology is eliminating jobs and industries)
  • Lets individuals start their own businesses and promotes entreprenualism
  • Huge opportunities for minority outreach ("I'll lower your business taxes more than my Democratic opponent")
  • Massively popular issue with generation Z
  • Safer than alcohol and sodas
  • Largely untapped health potential for many different conditions

Parts 2 and 3 of this excellent documentary (highly suggested) --- those ex NFL guys wear sunglasses because of extreme light sensitivity from the head injuries.

Also, if you've never heard about CBD oil's incredible effect on epilepsy in children, check this. Amazing:

Below is the company that helped treat the girl above, in Colorado. On their website, you can read about CBD products they recommend.

They work with hospitals, doctors and researchers.....the products they recommend are legal (they don't contain THC) and you can order them online.

Your boy's boy...Sessions will never allow this to be legal.

#MAGA

Sessions' drug war rhetoric is a big problem for me. That said, he's a follow the law guy. Changing the law neutralizes him. Decriminakization needs to happen. Someone will benefit from it. My money is on the guy who values opportunities over party platforms.

My money is on it not coming close to happening in a Trump administration. Medical exceptions, maybe. Recreational decriminalization, not a chance.

After all, he's the guy that appointed a War on Drugs hardliner as AG. IMO, this is really one issue Trump has lead you down a primrose path with deliberately vague statements during the election only to walk those back afterwards.

Possibly. Just remember he was a NY liberal until Obama insulted him at a dinner and he's on record (somewhere. Too lazy to look for it) saying it was a states rights issue.

"There is still a federal law we need to abide by in terms of when it comes to recreational marijuana and other drugs of that nature," White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters on Feb. 23, 2017. "I do believe that you'll see greater enforcement."

Speaking of Obama, IMO he doesn't want to appear to concede anything Obama might have come up with might have some merit. I don't see him expending political capital on making this a priority when everything he has said and done since elected trends the exact opposite way of decriminalization. Hell, if he was so inclined towards decriminalization at the federal level he could just reinstate some version of Obama's agency directive to the DOJ and DEA stating that resources were not to be directed to low level mj possession investigations, arrests, or prosecutions.

We've enabled cartels, outlawed effective treatments of numerous neurological conditions, stigmatized millions, fined and imprisoned millions, intruded into people's privacy, prevented relaxation and fun, frustrated free markets and all to placate the authoritarian religious right and conservative dogma (Just say No!).

Maga, etc. Beauregard wants more enforcement, too.

You are right, Sys --

But you mysteriously (intentionally?) left out:

-- big pharma (1/6 of the US GDP, and perhaps our single biggest rigged industry - owns both the Dems and GOP cucks) --- big pharma would be under incredible threat by widely-prescribed CBD, which appears to benefit a wide range of medical conditions with zero side effects

-- big alcohol (alcohol is far more dangerous than green)

-- big tobacco (still results in 400k American deaths each year, and generates billions of dollars in chemotherapy medicine)

The list goes on and on. Nobody is free of blame in the illegal marijuana shit show.

Good post. One that actually includes critical thinking and intelligent consideration. Keep it coming.

If the Democratic Party had pulled its head out of its ass and looked at the reasons for the mounting losses of seats from 2010 on, they could have possibly addressed the issues and made legalization a core part of their platform. Instead, they served up Hillary and a BUNCH of fairytale bullshit about fascism, Nazis, and white supremacists as their platform.

syskatine won't like it, but I blame Democrats for their failures more than conservatives for their victories. If your pasture grass is all dead and brown while your neighbor's appears green and lush, and you're stupid enough to leave the gates open, your cows are going to be feasting on your neighbor's pasture and you might not get them back without killing them first.

You're high. This is incoherent.

Nope. Maybe it's your lack of awareness and denial that anything is wrong with the Party. If I was high I wouldn't be posting on a message board.

If you actually need help understaning this very simple grass is greener analogy, let me know.

I think it has a lot to do with normal patterns of politics in this country. The party that seems to be "winning", loses power after 4 or 8 years. It is pretty rare for them to keep it going in their direction for 12.

I don't disagree entirely, but 2016 was different than the usual flipping. The prospect of Trump served up a golden opportunity for the Dems to do something different after 6 years of significant losses, something really different, to regain a connection to voters. Instead they threw out the carcass of a non-viable stinky political has been spray painted with one simple but non-relatable message, "Not Trump." And despite evidence to the contrary that should have led to significant change in the campaign, Hillary and the DNC were 100% invested in the press clippings they wrote themselves that guaranteed Hillary's victory. That failure is completely on the Democratic leadership.

I know you were very disappointed with the Democratic Party for those decisions. I just hope a bunch more were disappointed too.

The Dems effed it all up for sure. Unfortunately, they were only able to find very flawed candidates this time around. Hillary was so easy to hate that the "not Trump" strategy was probably the best option.

I strongly disagree. Bernie was a very viable candidate. If the DNC hadn't pre-coronated Queen Hillary and then actively worked against Bernie, we may be discussing President Sanders today. The entire problem is it seemed like the Democratic leadership felt Hillary was owed after Obama yanked the plug on her glory in 2008. If nothing else, the active collusion to get Hillary the nomination should piss you off enough to rampage for change. The DNC has become the old needs to be retired elistist GOP.

Whoa now.... I'm always willing to blame big corporations for all kinds of things. I'll side with corporate america over your anti-semitism and moronic, fact-free world views, though.
