I recently had the pleasure of assisting a client in shipping some purebred beefmaster heifers to Mexico. Apparently they are very strict on what crosses the border as far as livestock are concerned.

Here is a list of what we had to do. These were beef heifers (testing requirements are different for dairy).

Brucellosis Vaccinate with individual ID and tattoo
TB Test
Certify Virgin Heifers (if non virgin heifers must do testing for STD)
Must be vaccinated for a list of diseases within 90 days prior to shipment.

Fill out International Certificate of Veterinary Inspection and have it approved by a USDA employed veterinarian who approves and assigns a Permit Number to the ICVI.

After this is done I must be present when the cattle are loaded on a trailer and I must apply a USDA Seal. It had a corresponding number that matches the one on the ICVI. If this Seal is damaged, broken or gone when the livestock gets to the border they cannot cross.

It took approximately 4 hours of my time to do the testing and associated paperwork just to ship 3 heifers across the border.

While I know there are very few liberals on this board, why does your party want an open border system for humans, but it takes so much time, testing and paperwork to ship a few heifers across to Mexico?

Vetmed it’s very simple, destitute government dependent uneducated illegal border jumping criminals will naturally vote for whomever promises the biggest bag of goodies.......cows don’t vote.

Please give specific quotes/examples of prominent Democrats who support open borders. Also you are literally comparing people to cattle. Oy vey.

How long has it been since you did that?

It has been 6-7 years since I have been across the border. Used to do it on an almost weekly basis for work. I got stamped in once, if I remember it is good for 30 days, but I did not get stamped back out. The next time I went back they caught it and I had to "donate" some USD to work it out. Was not fun..

I was in a factory at one point once and Mexican border patrol came in to check everyone out. I bet you would have laughed if you could have seen all the US white guys running out the back door.

I’ve got no interest in doing that.

What about that crossing the border thing you mentioned earlier though?

Seriously? The guy that had a gun and told Mexican authorities that. Took wrong exit..

Former Marine I think.

I was always told I was not even to cross the border with samples, but more than once I had to. It would have been a big mess if I would have been caught and I am talking about metal fasteners or other manufacturing stuff.

Three guns and whatnot.....rest of the story.

After he was jailed, Tahmooressi tried to escape by climbing over a gate and heading up onto a roof, and then onto another one. He gave up when a guard opened fire, but the incident earned him the nickname "Spider-Man."

He later grabbed a light bulb and stabbed himself in the neck. He was taken to the hospital and given stiches.

@CowboyJD

There really is a difference depending on what you are doing. I have never "walked" across the border to do shopping or just eat so my experience is probably different than yours.

I did it for business probably ~100 times and I had to have Mexican paperwork to even enter a plant. Emerson, Cooper Industries and Panasonic to name a few. Also, I had to go through Mexican customs every time too and was not supposed to bring really any goods at all. Like I said it has been several years, but that is the way it was then and I am shocked if it has gotten any easier. Maybe it has though..

I agree there is a difference depending on what you are doing...tourism v. Business v. Carrying guns across v whatever.

That’s why I commented on the blanket statement of “try crossing the border....”.

Well when you cross to see the women and donkey shows there are very few requirements. I can see why your visits were so easy. :)

Actually it was to go see some fights at a local gym.

Not that it really matters but was in in Calif? I have not been across there, but they way they have the bars and stuff set up I can see where it would be easier to there than in El Paso or Monterrey.

No. Texas. Last time was Laredo. Another time was Juarez.

Was about to say Juarez. You can skip across the bridge there.

Juarez is pretty ate up with cartel violence right now. Don’t know that I would do that again.

It’s not like it was when I was a kid. We used to go to Juarez a bunch.
