SCOTUS ruling

Obviously I’m all for legal things, and against illegal things.

I struggle with this because the Declaration of Independence, though not legally binding, says that these rights are inalienable. And then we say that the right to life and liberty is privileged based on citizenship.

The founding fathers made little difference between Life and Liberty (give me liberty or give me death...) so I struggle with the fact we indefinitely detain individuals, which would go against the inalienable rights endowed by our Creator.

feel better about the situation knowing these individuals aren’t indefinitely detained

Is that in blue?

First sentence of the article:
Immigrants being held for deportation don’t have an automatic right under the law to post bond and be set free, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Tuesday...

So the illegals being held ahead of their court ARE able to be indefinitely detained.

the illegals can opt for immediate deportation

or

the illegals can jock the system
ask for asylum
and be detained until their hearing

what they can’t do is

jock the system
post bond
disappear

why is this problematic?

We are responsible for our actions, not their actions.
Just because they wronged us (and if they are illegals- they have wronged us), that does not (or should not?) give us unilateral authority to do anything we please to them, especially by violating their “inalienable rights”.

How are we violating their inalienable rights? No one is sitting in jail til the end of time. If they want to be extradited to their home country, I'm sure we would oblige. However, we have cities that think they need to release these law breakers before ICE can show up and take them into custody to begin the extradition process.

If they want to migrate to the US, there is a process that they can follow to enter the country legally. They choose to break the law and enter our country illegally.

And I believe the Constitution is set up for US citizens not for every person on the planet.
