School shooting in Maryland today

School resource officer engaged and killed shooter almost immediately. Shooter is the only fatality. 2 students injured.

4th major item of news on CNN website, after 3 of the usual anti-Trump sections. Weird that this seems to be getting a yawn. I'd hate to think that it's because the success of the armed school resource officer is getting in the way of the anti-gun narrative. In this case, more guns equalled less casualties.

Oh, good point. Had not heard about the weapon type. I'll bet an AR with banana clips and bump stocks could have gone on and easily shot 50 more people even after the shooter was killed.

Hell, it would have driven to the school, walked in and began shooting all by itself. You'll see this once AI becomes fully implemented in society. We saw an example this week where a driverless car ran over and killed someone.

I know a lady that use to work in the Sheriff’s office in Oklahoma County years ago telling me a story how an off duty cop that was conceal and carry in a Movie Theatre killed a gunmen almost immediately when they walked in the Theatre with an AR. This cop happened to be sitting in the back row right near the entrance the gunmen came in. She told me it really upset everyone in LE because it did not receive any national attention at all. She was not frustrated about the cop not being recognized as a hero, but the advantages of having armed civilians that can defend themselves. She also told me you would be surprised how many of these type of events do not receive any attention on a national level but only local and word spreads in LE. This was probably about 8 years or so ago, so maybe times have changed. But she definitely felt the media has an agenda against conceal and carry.

BTW - She left the Sheriff’s office years ago when they basically told them if you shoot and kill someone you will be heavily scrutinized and she said they basically explained it that there was an assumption of guilt. She was not a big women so she was always concerned about a larger man going after her gun, she said no way was she staying in LE and have to defend someone going after her firearm and her shooting them. Her dad was lifetime LE, she did not want to go but she felt she could not really defend herself in the changing environment of LE.

Resource officers carrying a gun is one of the best ways to protect our schools. Most of the big schools in metropolitan Oklahoma have that type of setup, which, oh by the way, is a big reason we don't have to deal with mentally ill idiots wanting to shoot kids on campus.

There was a casualty in the aforementioned shooting. It was the perp; the one who shockingly ignored age restrictions which made it illegal for him to posses the handgun in question.

The response to the shooting and the fact the shooter only used a handgun wouldn't play well in the upcoming hysterical anti-gun march scheduled for DC soon. No scary-assed "assault weapon" used and nobody dead but the shooter at the hands of an armed school resource officer runs 180 degrees counter to the anti-gun crusade.
