UPDATE: Tom Petty is dead at 67. TMZ reports that when Petty arrived at the hospital following cardiac arrest, he had no brain activity and the decision was made to pull life support.

Tom Petty was taken to the hospital last night after he was found unconscious in his Malibu home, according to TMZ. He wasn’t breathing and was in full cardiac arrest, though emergency responders were able to find a pulse. He is now reportedly on life support at the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, though his current condition is unknown.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers just performed at the Hollywood Bowl last week, as part of their extensive 40th anniversary tour.

RIP TP-

I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel

Reuters just tweeted that he's "clinging to life"

Damn this one is tough. Jr high through college he was the soundtrack of my generation.

Funny story (that my wife will read and hit me for posting) ... So she insisted on natural child birth. No drugs. I made her a cassette mix tape, with songs I knew she loved, to take her mind off the pain of labor. She delivered our first daughter to Tom Petty's "breakdown", which I always thought was hilarious.

My very first concert, 1978 OKC Civic Center, Petty was the opening act for the Kinks.

Yep, this one hurts and to be honest kind of scares me in that "getting older" sort of way can intrude into reality.

Authentic? yep, pretty much....

“I still go to the store. I think anyone can. … Too many friends of mine spent decades in houses behind walls. That's not good. The joke's on you at that point." (1990)

I am also loving all of the tributes from other artist. The one thing they all mention and something we tend to overlook is how great of a writer he was. Not just entertainer or singer. His words were poetry.
