who here thinks it’s a good political argument to question the opposition as to why they haven’t fixed the thing that their side said was great and in no need of fixing?

Goal post moving is the new black.

That's really, really, really stupid. Do we have someone here doing that?

I'm not even sure premiums have risen more after Obamacare than before -- we sure have a lot more insured though. Don't we?

It's Obama's fault!

(republican congress comes and goes -- does nothing.)

Guess whose fault this is!

You guys all told us how great it was. Why does it need fixing?

Also hard to anticipate red states not taking medicaid expansion

Uhhhh, hard to anticipate red states not taking Medicaid expansion when no Republicans voted for the ACA and plenty of red states said they weren't going to foot the bill for an expansion of Medicaid? Who didn't anticipate that? You or are you talking about the Democrats?

He didn't call it perfect either.

It must be really broken for Democrats to be wanting to completely scrap it and socialize our medicine. If they got the ACA that wrong, why would anyone trust them to get Medicare for All right?

I wouldn't hire that guy to fix my company's problems. No way.

Thinking it was hard to anticipate something is laughable.

Kill what? The Obamacare that's working well? Why would anyone do that? That makes no sense. That's like you serving me a cedar plank salmon when I ordered a lobster tail. Is something wrong with the lobster tail?

Canada has single pay RATIONED Medicare for all system. I did business in British Columbia and Ontario from 1990 to May, 2003. I don't want any part of it. Our own system has deteriorated enough under Mugabecare.

Our own VA is a single pay system. Check it out. Dump the emotion. Now here's a real gem.

Anyone wonder why Mick Jagger flew to New York to pay for a heart valve while it's "free" in the UK?

Anything newer than a 12 year old chart?

Probably, feel free to add data.

Health insurers ration health care every day.

People fly to the mayo, md anderson, and a variety of too notch hospitals from oklahoma and everywhere else, too.

So who's doing it right then? Because health insurance us reeeal expensive for those of us that pay our way. We're getting squeezed. No way health insurance shoukd be like a house payment and car payment. The middle class cant afford to pay it unless they have some institutional money paying the premium.

So Mick Jagger benefited from mugabecare? Maybe medic is right, why are we trying to change a system that is already so good.

@Syskatine - premiums jumped after ACA, but the biggest difference is the deductible. Pre-ACA mine was $500 and my premium was $325/per month and a few years later was paying $625/per month with $6000 deductible. I now have to pay over $13000 before insurance pays. Obamacare sucks just like you

Why shouldn't health insurance be like a house payment and car payment? You don't work for free and neither do healthcare providers. Spend less on your house and car and more on your health. Pay cash for your healthcare. Stop paying an insurance company. Put "premiums" into an investment account starting now and you'll have some cash to pay for all of your healthcare needs in no time. If you don't have enough cash when you get sick, go with a payment plan with your healthcare providers just like you do for your house and car. Refuse tests and care that you think are too expensive or not a good value for the money. Eat well. Exercise. Don't smoke.

Gop: this system is so awful!

Libs: ok lets scrap the system and do what works elsewhere

Gop: what??? Change it?!?!

Dont get sick.

Why shouldnt electricity be like a house payment and car payment? Water? Just let them squeeze as much as they can, too?

This system sucks.

Who pays for your electricity? Who pays for your water? You can pay for your healthcare directly too.

You don't really think healthcare will be free for you when you have Medicare for All, right? If we're talking no copays or deductibles, that's more like Medicaid for all and we all know about healthcare utilization in the Medicaid population. You're going to be paying out the ass in taxes to pay for this boat anchor. You'll be paying for it in personal income tax and taxes on your business, and taxes on anything the Democrats can find to tax.

If the government doesn't raise the revenues to pay for it, and goes down the path of cutting the wages of healthcare providers to pay for it like pilt wants, you won't have enough healthcare providers left to deliver care when you need it. People are still getting older and sicker in numbers faster than schools can spit out providers. If the wages don't support the work and working conditions, people won't enter the field. Healthcare is a demand labor market and has been for some time. It's hard work. Unlike writing wills and doing the books, people can die when you make errors.

Imagine you're having a heart attack and you show up in the way overcrowded ER. You're definitely a priority. All the beds are taken so they put you on a stretcher in the hall to work on you. They'd love to take you to the cath lab now, but their only cardiologist doesn't work on Fridays. You aren't a candidate for tPA and that sucks. They'll have to find another hospital that might be able to take care of you. Hopefully your heart can survive that long without permanent damage. They do find you another hospital 25 miles away but the wait for their cath lab will be 1.5 hours because they are working a current case with another one waiting. Thank god I'm on duty. I'll be there in 10 minutes to transport you. If you do survive, you'll likely join the ranks of the growing heart failure club. That's where the real fun begins.

Now imagine you are one of the 22+ million uninsured people in the US.
Now imagine you live in a country that spends 20% of GDP on healthcare instead of 10%

Why do we still have uninsured people? The government handed out subsidies and Medicaid like candy at Halloween. Anyone with disabilities is covered. Old people are covered. Kids are covered. The ACA was supposed to make healthcare affordable. Hell, that's even the name of the law!

PS: you can pay cash for your healthcare. Providers work out payment plans with patients all day every day. You might have to get rid of the Escalade, cigarettes, booze, casinos, and stop eating at Peter Luger's every Friday, but are those really more important than your health?

Because we don't have universal healthcare
