Couple of Comments:

1.) Stevie Wonder singing "Ain't no sunshine" was AWESOME!

2.) How the hell does it take 25 years to induct Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble?

Agree with SRV. No excuse for it not happening years ago.

Was it this weekend? I was flipping channels last night and saw Joan Jett getting inducted, but for some reason I thought it was an older recorded one.

Saw Joan two years ago on a muggy, Oklahoma July 5 evening, outdoors at Frontier City, it must have been 90 degrees and the humidity off the charts. Played her ass off, took an intermission and had to change clothes as her first set was completely sweat soaked. I didn't realize how tiny she was until I saw her up close (paid a whopping $8 extra to get standing room right in front of the stage). With her history she definitely deserved a spot.

Wood,

yeah that was this year's ceremony. Jett definitely deserved it. I saw her about 17 years ago or so in an outdoor concert in the Tulsa city hall square.... I was pretty hot and muggy that night if I recall correctly..... She is a Rock and Roll icon and deserves to be in the hall....

They inducted freaking Green Day and the Doobie Brothers haven't been inducted yet? What an absolute joke.
I only know about three or four Doobie Brothers' songs, and what I know I like. Black Water or whatever it's called is a great freakin song. So...my opinion is lacking when it comes to them...but I wouldn't say they don't deserve to be in.

Green Day... I love them. They have put out hit after hit, year after year, for an awfully long time. And while they are primarily a punk band, I think they've demonstrated musical versatility by creating several fantastic ballads and some great pop rock songs. On top of that, Billie Joe's Mom is an Okie (I learned that watching his HOF induction speech).

This is my regular post, as a public historian, to say that the actual museum is very, very good and that the RRHOF Archives and Library is an invaluable cultural resource. So whatever money and attention the "inductions" draw to the institution is great, even if the selections (about which I have much criticism) are odd.

Deep Purple. Judas Priest. Probably the two most glaring omissions right now. Depeche Mode is also one that should be in.

Bon Jovi has been nominated.. Judas Priest hasn't. WTF?

The HOF has always struggled with inducting bands with multiple lineups. Deep Purple is the poster child for that kind of band.

To me... a lot of this 'who's in, who's not' debate is personal taste and generational.

For me, I'm probably at the generational highpoint for Green Day fans. I'm sure millennials and people 10 years+ older than me don't get it..."ya, they had a few good songs, but so..." Well, I'm the same way with a band like Deep Purple. I honestly cannot tell you the name of one member of Deep Purple and can only name one their songs, Smoke on the Water. Granted, that is one hell of a rock 'n roll song, but that's all I know. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be in; I just missed them. And I certainly don't begrudge anyone who loves them and thinks them deserving. Hell, you're probably right.

Anyone here see SRV at the OKC Civic Center in May 1990? Was probably his last show in Oklahoma.

Pretty good speech by Jimmy Vaughn.....but cant believe he tried to tackle some of SRV's tunes. Always thought he was overrated as a guitar player.

Does the bass player for Double Trouble have Parkinson's?

Completely agree with Jett's induction. Well deserved. But couldn't she have picked someone else to give her induction speech besides that slack-jawed, hillbilly trailer trash, Miley Cyrus? What an embarrassment moment in an otherwise great career.

Anyone ever been to the RnR HOF and visited the museum part? Isn't it in Ohio? Could one do a NFL HOF and RnR hof on one trip?

R&R HOF is in Cleveland and the NFL HOF is in Canton, which is about an hour south of Cleveland. So, yes, it can be done in one trip, but you'd have to skip through a lot of stuff just to say you saw both museums on one day.

You need at least four hours at the RRHOF. It's a steep admission price so you want your money's worth. You'll want to spend time in front of many of the artifacts, almost as you would at an art museum, and as you would imagie there's a lot of film and audio to enjoy. It's a dead zone around the Cleveland lakefront, but there's some enjoyable neighborhoods surrounding downtown. Haven't been to Canton.

While I happen to like Purple a lot, my feeling for most bands that I feel should be inducted is centered more around how big of an influence they were to other musicians.

Purple is part of the Holy trinity of English heavy rock, with Zep and Sabbath. Bands such as Rush, Metallica, Megadeth, Queen, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Alice in Chains, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and many others claim Deep Purple as a major influence. They've sold over 100 millions albums worldwide.

While you may not know their songs by name, you would recognize them when played, and would also recognize the names of some of their members. Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillian, Ian Paice, Jon Lord, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Steve Morse, Tommy Bolin, Joe Lynn Turner and Joe Satriani, are some of them.

Plus .. you aren't on the nominating committee. It isn't your job to know about the bands available for induction.

That's what makes it so appalling, that those on the committee are so clueless, or so set on only including artists that fit their tastes.

I would say you need at least the same amount of time in the NFL HOF..... I have been to both on separate occassions as I occassionally have business in the Cleveland area..... Personally, I liked the NFL HOF better, but that is probably personal taste. I am sure other folks could make a good case for the RnR HOF being more interesting.... comes down to personal taste IMO..... I think if your a fan of both, you need to see both....

Agree, you need two days. We did R&R Hall of Fame, NFL Hall of Fame and visited Kent State during a two day period. Both Hall of Fames are must visits.

The Replacements and The Pixies are obvious choices that aren't in, though neither has been eligible all that long.

Wondered same about bassist and agree completely that Jimmy couldn't hold Stevie's jock since srv was about 11.

And gipraw is right as rain about Deep Purple. Machine Head and Made in Japan are absolutely must-have albums for anyone claiming to be a rocker. Buy 'em, if you don't like 'em, I'll buy 'em from you and wear 'em out when I get to the old folks' home.

Lot's of changes to the line up, but they were never less than great. I didn't know Satriani ever joined up.

Isn't there some odd political/financial hurdle to being nominated? Like you or your nominating group have to pony up a bunch of cash/donations to be considered?

Yes.

Johnny Rotten said that in order to be part of the ceremony/concert, the band was "asked" to buy a table ($20,000 or something). There's no cash requirement for actual induction, but you gotta think that any ability to fund raise and promote the Hall is a nominating consideration (well, maybe not in the case of the Pistols, but for most others, which probably helps explain things like Green Day). I'm sure you have to agree to donate some items, too.
