I'm so proud of what this generation of republican government has done for our state education. We've devolved to #48, teachers have to shut down the world to get a raise, huge scandal where our Dept of Educ (strong generation of republican leadership) has allowed charter school(s) to get away with murder and have shit education, white trash religious parents are making sure to keep their kids isolated and brainwashed with home schooling or internet schools (which I can't blame some of these parents for home schooling in rural areas) but at least our urban schools are doing better.

Can you give two or three precise things the Republicans have done wrong that caused the situation at John Marshall? My kids are way past their school days so I haven’t paid attention. But is not John Marshall a public school? In what way are parents that home school responsible for problems at a public school? It seems to me you are all over the map in placing blame. This school has a good teacher/student ratio and an experienced staff. Yet it has a 1 out of 10 rating.

I looked up my kids’ school and it has a 9 out of 10 rating. When our school holds parent/teacher conferences, either my wife or I or both of us attend. It is difficult to get to the teachers to talk to them because the place is swarming with parents. When our kids get home from school, our first question is “How was your day?” Second question is “How much homework do you have?” Third question is “Do you need any help?”

I’ll bet John Marshall Junior High is a ghost town on parent teacher conference night. One look at the test scores tells me what I need to know.

Any failing school begins at home. And I’m not trying to let the lib school administrators off the hook here. Just saying there are a lot of pieces to this puzzle.

As a "professional tourist" from 1990 to May, 2003, these were usually my lead questions for high school students and recent high school graduates in 48 states.

1. Please name me a Supreme Court Justice. Not one correct answer ever. I had to name all 9 before I could dream of moving from grade 6 to 7.

2. Since primates have walked the earth, how much of our water supply have we exhausted? Less than 10 percent could answer correctly.

3. What's smartest of all the primates? less than 2 percent.

4. Name your congressman. Less than 1 percent.

5. Name your 2 Senators. Less than 1 percent.

6. Define civics. Forget it.

99 percent of bank employees cannot teach me to count money. They were never introduced to the structure and history of the U. S. dollar. I was introduced to such in the second grade at Lawton Taft Elementary.

95 percent could tell me who Brad Pitt was married to.

Younger daughter is a second grade teacher at Fort Collins Bethke, Colorado. Fort Collins is our nation's fifth whitest city and rich. For the second straight year, a Hispanic student keeps her class from being all white. Daughter is all white. We adopted her age 3. Her DNA testing with 23andme confirms all white. She started Waco ISD, Dallas and Frisco before her husband got transferred to Fort Collins with Hewlett-Packard.

She reports this class is particularly unruly.
