Loved the book, not sure I'll like the movie but I'll definitely go see it. Something about the previews just leads me to believe I'll be disappointed. Also, I heard OKC got edited out of the movie.
Totally agree. One of my all time favorite books. Not sure the movie wii do it justice.
If you like that book... you ever read Matt Ruff?
No. Tell me more.
Same here. I'm worried that the movie will be too much action and leave out the other parts.Totally agree. One of my all time favorite books. Not sure the movie wii do it justice.
He's out of left field, kind of like Ernest Cline. Try Bad Monkeys, and if you don't like that one you probably won't like his stuff. He only wrote one bad book imo, Sewer Gas and Electric, or something like that. I can't figure out why he's not a bigger success. I'd say 3 -4 of his books are on par or better than Ready Player One. His last one was kind of mediocre, though.
Dude didn't have to pick Oklahoma the perfect dystopian shithole, though.
"We lived in the Portland Avenue Stacks, a sprawling hive of discolored tin shoeboxes rusting on the shores of I-40, just west of Oklahoma City’s decaying skyscraper core."
Pretty sure it was always Oklahoma City. Been a sec since I read the book though. In the movie the character is from the Midwest, not OKC. Not sure why Spielberg changed it.
Ah
He wrote Set this house in order, right?
Really liked it. Need to try his other stuff.
Yes that's him and I liked that one too.
What other writers and books grabbed you?
I thought the book was horrible and predictable.. Nostalgia porn at its worse.
I really like the Expanse series (sci fi)

Movie will be disappointing. They were unable to get licensing rights to much of the stuff mentioned in the book so they had to change a bunch of the gameplay references.
