Reading with kids

Looking for some recommendations.

I read with my kids every other night, flip flop between the 2. My daughter and I are about to finish the Harry Potter series in the next week or so. It’s taken awhile at 3-4 chapters a week. We also took a brief intermission as I wanted to introduce her to The Princess Bride between HP books 4 & 5.

Anyway I’m looking for some good book recommendations to read with my 11-year old daughter. I’ve considered starting a new series (Percy Jackson). Not sure I want to commit to that though. I have recently reread to preview for us To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of Flies as well as started The Body (Stand By Me). Those are probably all a bit too mature for her. To Kill a Mockingbird is probably the most realistic of the group.

You’ve gotten some good suggestions but I’ll add Chronicles of Narnia, Lemony Snicket, the light keepers series, the magic treehouse series, the boxcar children, Winnie the Pooh, little house on the prairie and depending on how old they are the hobbit and lord of the rings

Good ones. I read probably 4-5 of the Little House books with my girls and the older two read a bunch of The Boxcar Children.

Lemony Snicket and A Series of Unfortunate Events are one and the same.

It’s a mystery where many (like 15) heirs to a fortune are challenged to figure out how the dead guy died in order to inherit his millions.

If they like to color, I would recommend the art based 50 Shades of Grey.

But seriously, I bought my 5th grade daughter Where the Red Fern Grows and Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. I bought them today and she is about 100 pages into Chains and loves it. It is a Historical fiction book about a 13 year old slave during the Revolutionary War. I think I will read it when she is done.

This was one of the most entertaining books I've read in a long time. It's a quick read and fascinating! I totally agree! Should be required reading in all Oklahoma schools.

When I was younger they came out with a new series of Nancy Drew in paper book. I got hooked and so my mom got me all the originals that were reprinted in the fifties. If they like mysteries I would recommend.

For that matter the Hardy boys are a good series as well although a little male oriented.....

Speaking of Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys, did anyone read the Rick Brant series when they were kids? I loved them. Not sure if they’d hold up today, but they were great reads.

Also loved my side of the mountain, when I was a kid.
