Quotation Of The Day By The Great Walter Williams

Wow! You've been to Japan four times! That's pretty cool you have the means to do that. And Qatar three times. That's really neat. I've never been to Asia but it sounds cool. They have trucks and stuff? You might be the only person on this board that's been to those places. I just assumed the Japanese would rather drive their own cars and import other things like tobacco and cheese and Nike and Levis.

I'll try harder next time.
You are correct about the Levi's.

A good friend of mine just returned from 3-weeks in Tokyo. Of note he said that he did not see even 1-American car in the whole city while he was there.
The 1996 Plymoith Neon arrived at a Japanese dock. It had to undergo a costly inspection adding to the MSRP. Then a 30 day storage dock fee was added. I can't remember the tarriff tax. Few Japanese Nationals cared to pay the costly MSRP for a low buck Plymouth or Dodge Neon. US trade officials had no such trade barriers imposed om the Toyota Corrola.

Congress did later write laws to make it attractive for Japanese auto makers to invest in US assembly plants.
