what was the US reaction to russia annexing the crimea three years ago?

crickets right?

and now trump gets heat for "talking" to putin?

i'm sorry but russia hasn't annexed crap the last three weeks maybe trump should get a chance to build rapport enough to let putin annexing sovereign territory is no longer an option

We declared pretty harsh sanctions on them, the same thing Mr. Trump, I am sure would do, and we have deployed a significant number of military assets to the region

permit me to rephrase counselor as i'm not a credentialed and seasoned interrogator such as yourself

and to your point i would actually invoke opecs destabilization of energy markets and the ensuing free fall in oil and gas prices in the fall of 14 tie directly to russia's annexation of the crimea but that's a story for another day

my follow up question would be

what net affect on the crimea have these sanctions and imo the crippling effect of reduced oil and gas prices on the russian economy had on ukrainian sovereignty in the Crimea?

perhaps now putin will know annexing sovereign territory is no longer an option

I'd say the net affect of the sanctions were that Russia has been hurt (not crippled) financially....as evidenced that Putin is exerting plenty of pressure geopolitically to get them lifted.

My follow up question would be....what do you think Obama should have done beyond sanctions and military assistance to Ukraine.....since you referred to that as "crickets"?

My follow up suggestions would be:

1. Don't say "crickets" when that can be so easily debunked with a 30 second google search.

2. Some capitalization and periods might help.

You obviously have a problem with me.

I'm perfectly okay with that.

Don't make dumbass statements like "crickets" and you won't get called out.

You didn't answer my follow up question, btw.

to your question

i don't think putin puckered for one iota of one second before rolling into the crimea

he thought of obama as a bitch
a chamber pot chamber maid or chamberlain

i think trump mattis and to an extent tillerson offer a vastly different matrix of outcomes for putin to consider next time he makes a decision of this sort

Still didn't answer it.

What should Obama have done, instead of "crickets"?

As for Mattis, Trump, and Tillerson, I believe and hope that Mattis will be holding back Trump and Tillerson from rolling back the sanctions. I don't think Putin will pucker one iota if Trump tweets mean words at him either.

reading adjectives like "dumbass" to characterize my statements

i offer the problem is yours and yours alone

if our tete-a-tete has become personal enough for you to commence to name calling let me extend an apology

i did need a bit of time to formulate my thoughts to lend considered response to
your question

as my reply to your suggestions needed none

I characterized your "crickets" statement as dumbass....and it was. I didn't name call.

And you still haven't answered my follow up question.

i did ask what net affect the sanctions had on ukrainian sovereignty in the crimea

you are so right jd i should have said childish characterizations of my statements, instead of name calling, as juvenile would indicate an absent level of maturity

i did ask what net affect the sanctions had on ukrainian sovereignty in the crimea

I'd say that is pretty self evident, Putin didn't abandon Crimea, Ukrainia still asserts sovereignty over it and there is still shooting going on over it.

I also asked what you would have done differently than sanctions and military assistance, and you still haven't answered that. After all, Trump, Mattis and Tillerson don't actually need to wait until "next time" Putin flexes his muscle to address the Crimea issue if they decided it needs addressing.

A childish characterization of a childish, juvenile statement.....I'll give you that.

You might want to toughen up a little though, there is plenty of juvenile ball busting going on from all quarters around here.

And you still haven't answered the question of what in your opinion Obama should have done differently.

and i think the answer to your question is self evident

i would have done whatever is necessary to assist the ukraine in protecting its sovereign territory

allowing the russians to march across the border is a non starter

Complete and utter dodge, but....okay.

Would you have engaged Russia in a shooting war on the ground with U.S. Troops? Missiles? Air attacks?

Should Trump now do "whatever is necessary to assist the Ukraine in re acquiring it's over territory? Since you expect a whole a wholly different matrix of outcomes from Mattis, Trump, and Tillerson?

I can tell.....your whining about your statement being called "dumbass" is certainly evidence of that.
