There has been a lot of angst in America over the attempt by Vlad Putin and the Russians attempting to influence the last Presidential election. Most of the allegations have come from Democrats and left wing pundits from the MSM. But a fair amount of establishment Republicans have also voiced their concern. For them it is unseemly that a leader of one country would interfere in the politics of another.

On the other hand DJT recently told Kim J Un he would be allowed to continue to be dictator if he would denuclearize. The unspoken threat was that Trump would see to it that KJU would be deposed if he didn’t do as he was told.

If the principle is that the leader of one country should not interfere with the political activities of another country, in what way is what Putin attempted to do to America different from what Trump is attempting to do to North Korea?

It is hypocrisy, Dan. One side of hypocrisy is right (either what you say or what you do). I think in this case the principle of not interfering with the politics of a sovereign nation is the right side. However, in today's globalized world it increasingly hard to draw that line without it interfering with normal stuff like trade and commentary.

You left out Barry and Israel.

Oh, heavens, Jimmy, I left out a plethora of US interference in the political affairs of other countries. I’m curious how American citizens view the difference between what other countries do to us (Isreal’s Influence on American politics is legendary) as compared to what we do to other countries. What principle allows us to interfere but condemns others for doing the same thing? Pilt calls it hypocrisy. Do you agree?

"Influence on politics" is far different from "direct interference"; hell, anyone knows we engage in the influencing side. Hacking/manipulation of data is the extreme (and would make a great narrative if it were true here).

There are several countries in Latin America that might quibble with your belief the US doesn’t apply “direct influence.”

I think if you study the history, what Russia did was child’s play. Twitter accounts and fake rallies? Spreading disinformation? Sounds like an American super pac to me.
