Putin waltzed into Syria, obliterated Feckless in Chiefs backed rebels, showed the world how a real leader takes action, keeps his ally Assad firmly in power and appearing in a more favorable light to the international community, and kept the pressure on for Iran who now has buckets of cash to waste on Syria thanks to Feckless and Ketchup Boy.
Putin isn't leaving Syria either. There will still be plenty of military force there. His folks just ran out of shit that was worth their while to bomb.

they got what they wanted, eliminated any threat, and now it's over and can start moving out. That is what you do when you are victorious and assad will be around for another decade or 2. The next problem is where is putin going next? He owns syria now so he can go somewhere else and make our fearless leader look like a fool. Of course, putin will have to hurry.

Assad isn't going anywhere. The only group that had a chance to oust him was a rag tag coalition of peaknuckle players propped up by Obama. Putin came in playing to finish, Obama brought a golf club to the gun fight.
Hell, a lot of US weapons were seized from Obama's real JV team by Al Qaeda just recently because Obama's half assery let the opposition forces flop around while Putin was smashing them like Trump smashes liberal feelings. Look at who controls what now. Assad has no effective opposition except ISIS and everybody else is spending resources fighting them. Putin put Assad in the Presidential suite and then took a dump on Obama's face. Obama's too scared to wipe it off.

Russia has taken a bit hit with the lower oil prices also. This was getting too expensive for them and they could declare victory and leave without losing face. The timing was also important because of the beginning of peace talks.
