Bro in law and I slipped out on Friday and shot some dogs with the 17 HMR. Two things stand out after not shooting at them in a while.

1. Cooper 17 HMR's are dead balls accurate with great triggers from the factory. They're spendy but it would be hard to put together a comparable package with gunsmith work for less.

2. I have to get a better scope. You can barely see a dog at 200 yards

I wish we had some of those towns that go for miles and miles, but most of ours are tiny because we poison them fairly regular in the winter. Still, it was a good time. I think I want a 14 or 15 power scope, but I'm not sure what I'm going to buy. Still, can't hit what I can't see.

There's a long range prairie dog hunt set up east of Binger, OK where I live, you can set up to shoot up to a mile. I just found out about it a few months ago.

I picked up a Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42 with a HSR-4 Reticle. $712 from Optics Planet for the 17 HMR. I'll let you know more when I get the scope.
