The fact is the police have become militarized to the point that often times they have a take no prisoners, shoot first, ask questions later attitude. It's an attitude that gives them the notion any encounter is with a subhuman that does not deserve to be treated with respect. (Not always, but often enough to be a concern.) And it is an attitude that can morph into the police becoming the "muscle" of a totalitarian state. Have all the respect in the world for the job they are hired to do, but never lose sight of the unintended consequences if you turn your eyes away for a second. While I agree the left expresses undue hatred for the police it provides a benefit that lets the police know they are being watched.
