Perspective On Mexicans From. man Who Should Know What He's Talking About

Come here via legal immigration - no problem. Come here via illegal immigration - problem. Either way, leave your criminals behind.
That's the attitude most of us share. Do you know what it takes to come here legally? I don't. What hoops must one jump through? How long does the process take from the time you apply to the time you're walking across the border? Do you have to pay money for anything? What criteria are required before one is allowed to come and stay permanently?

It's a lengthy and expensive process. Those who immigrated legally see it as an investment in opportunity. But don't be fooled into thinking that illegal immigration is cheap. Those folks spend thousands on a human smuggler to get them "papers" and across the border.

Ponca, my wife is Brazilian and to get her a K1 visa, then convert to a legal resident alien 2 year visa with conditions (after getting married) and then to a 10 year legal resident alien with no conditions took about 4 years in total. It was expensive as well, more so for us because I hired a lawyer to help. It is a bullshit process that can be gamed if you want. One of the things that frustrated us the most was the fact that every time you had a change in status we had to drive to OKC to do one thing....get re-finger printed. That's right we drive 3+ hours for a BS 10 minute appointment.

I have no empathy for people here illegally and or people who aid and abet that nonsense and even think birthright citizenship should be done away with.

The article is a fluff piece and yet another attempt to paint people who want immigration laws enforced as uninformed, even if they are simply here to "create a better life." I absolutely don't care who comes here legally and does so with a desire to assimilate, but if your here illegally time to go to jail and be deported. The author doesn't mention one dam thing about all those nice corrupt politicians, or the border wall in southern Mexico or what would happen to an American who is in Mexico illegally....

Totally random question.....how long has your wife been in Oklahoma and does she know many Brazilians here?

Nippon, she has been here permanently since 7/31/11. She does know some Brazilians in the Tulsa area, especially through our church. We don't go out a lot so she probably doesn't know as many as she could. There are quiet a few, especially clustered around the universities and churches.
