PA18 is 'unspinnable warning sign for GOP'

He's a very fair, conservative journalist.
Cool. Not aware of him, but he's not wrong. Its not a good look for the GOP, but this candidate tried very hard to avoid looking like a democrat. He never attacked Trump, he supported a number of Trump's policies (tax cut, tariffs), etc. So if this is the new mold of democratic candidate, then yes, the GOP should be very scared. But the US shouldnt. This is exactly the kind of candidate most of us centrists want. That said, if he gets to D.C. and becomes a Pelosi shill, then there's a chance that this actually bites Dems, because as is well known, many of the seats in question are in Republican dominated states, and while Trump isn't popular, Pelosi is even less so. And those future seats will become much less about the candidate and much more about Rs and Ds.

I haven’t ever figured out was he the same character on soap as he was on his other show or just the same name? I haven’t watched soap enough.
No idea. I didnt know he was part of soaps. Have never watched them (always been working when they are on I guess). But the show Benson was funny when I was much younger.

@davidallen @syskatine you guys see this as a referendum or just an anomaly?
My take is this is a big freaking deal. Talking last week (maybe two - 30k miles in 9 days I am not sure who or where I am) with a buddy in the 'burgh and he felt like it was going this way saying a lot of people have totally flipped on Trump. We shall see...

This was simply a better looking, better personality, pretiier candidate winning with little substance. The republican dude looked like a bumbling stumbling moron looking for cacoons on the ocean floor. And this guy immulated some of trumps tactics to win it...well, maybe he won it. Think of it as another nobama train wreck.

Wasn’t that the movie cocoons? He looks like that old guy. Age rarely beats beauty.

He is basically a unicorn in the DNC. He is what the DNC was about twenty years ago before shifting to the far left.

Too many of these special elections have gone blue from red for this to just be one anomaly.
I'm a conservative but I think it's a big deal, too. Unicorn or not, these special elections have been one-sided in % differential. Like you said, sys... look at all the elections since 2016. There is a big difference in voter excitement and 'TRUMP' will not be on the ballot.

All politics are local. I don't know enough about the candidates to give a good opinion. In general, if Trump isn't on the ballot, then the election isn't a referendum on him but more a reflection of the actual candidates. That's generally my opinion.

Lamb was described by my very conservative buddy as "an Obama loving libtard". Having said that, he said he thought it would be good to "balance out" Trump.

My point is, Trump is on the ballot if only in so far as people want to see him either supported or moderated. Did you think BHO wasn't on the ballot in the 2010 midterms?
