I flew up to NYC and caught the 10/31 and 11/1 Dead & Co shows at MSG, and I gotta say... They were really, REALLY good.
The music was great, the scene was great, and most important - the band was having a blast! I was in the lower level night 1 (10/31) and had GA PIT tix night 2 (11/1) and ended up front row on the rail right in front of john, the 12 people in front of me in line took the spots in front of Weir. But, I was completely happy where I was, Bobby and John were working really well off of each other, much like Bob and Jerry used to, so Bob was always looking my direction which was cool!
Some were suspect of how Mayer would mesh with this band (myself included), but the guy is tearing it up. He is an excellent guitar player, and is bringing a new energy to the band, and Bobby is having fun again! The band was tight, and Oteil (Bass) is doing a masterful job of filing in for Phil. Oteil is also smiling and laughing the the whole show, seems to be having the time of his life.
I love Trey, and was exstatic when he filled in for the Fare Thee Well shows in June/July, but THIS band is sounding better than the Fare Thee Well shows - I was @ 7/4/15 show. Trey seemed to play just like he would with Phish, or his solo work; Which is really cool, but not as good of a fit IMO. Regardless of whether this is the lineup that you initially wanted, this is the lineup that you need! You can really see and feel the connection between Bob and John building, as Bob is allowing john (and this band) to do things that haven't been done by any post dead exploration since Jerry passed.
The first sets were good, the second sets were incredible. And although "drums" and "space" were slightly shorter than normal, the guys still got it!
If you aren't planning on going or are on the fence about going, I urge you to reconsider! Go listen to the both MSG shows and I believe you will find yourself buying tickets and booking flights.

Jack Straw, Brown Eyed Woman, Althea, Deal, Estimated, Terrapin, China>Rider, and Saturday Night were my personal favorites of the night.
