OSU vs South Dakota State updates

Smith wins 10-3
Rogers wins 8-3
Crutchmer loses 7-2
Very disappointing dual. Some of our guys wrestled very good and some wrestled very poor. Some were aggressive and then some of our wrestlers were very passive. We were upset 3 times and therefore we will drop in the ratings. I don't understand Weigel in the last seconds of his match falling asleep when in the up and down positions he really would have had the advantage. I don't believe Joe Smith can shoot a good takedown anymore hopefully for us that changes but he has been wrestling almost a month. Kaid's weakness is bottom and against a good wrestler if he does not get his takedown clean he will likely get out scrambled. Of the upsets this one bothers me the least but still he doesn't finish tough matches well. Crutchmer Is behind 6 to 1 and he won't shoot a takedown. We whipped them in the match but it feels like a loss to me. Pic, Heil, Collica especially, Boyd and Schaeffer wrestled good.

Preston , Brock and Crutchmer did not wrestle good today.

I actually think Kaid wrestled fine. I think the staff wants him to work from bottom as if he would not have taken down in the second he wins.

I bet he wins the rematch.

Shocking.
The skies not falling. Kaid taking down was really the difference in that match and not taking anything away from Gross who turned one of Kaid's shots into a takedown of his own. Of course Kyle dug his own hole and when the other wrestler basically ties up or backs up the rest of the match it is hard to recover. Kyle looked like he was trying to get it all back at once and he should have just been working on getting a takedown and taking one step at a time. Weigel relaxed at the end of overtime either because he was tired or he was thinking of the referee positions to win. Collica again looked outstanding.Pic looked very good against a weaker opponent. For the 2nd dual Joe Smith did not take his patented ankle pick and this has to be by design. I think John is rebuilding him a little at a time and wants him to try other moves. He looked better but not the Joe of old. Chandler had a tough opponent and handled him well. Nolan looked outstanding and congrats on his 100th win. Schafer just continues to impress.
LETS GO POKES!!!

No the sky is not falling but we lost ground today due to rankings in the National Championship race. I would bet that three of our wrestlers rankings are hurt and probably not one wrestlers rankings improve. Hall has likely changed what we will need to do to win. Instead of moving forward we lost some ground.

Rankings don't decide the national title.

Also just an FYI but if you fret over the rankings, even with a couple of our guys dropping and Hall in the lineup Flo still has us as the No. 1 tournament team. PSU did gain on us some though.

But I wouldn't get too excited about that, don't think Flo includes bonus points in their ranking math, the NCAA tournament will be about bonus points and how OSU & PSU do against all the other competition not head to head rankings.

I personally don't get too worked up about the rankings good or bad. What it matters is who qualifies for the tournament and performs when it counts.
