We do some whacky things around here - this is a good example - though a red herring IMO. It is not as if a 15 year old wakes up one morning and decides to become a woman. It is a long and painful process before reassignment is even discussed - one that even a oblivious parent would be well engaged in.
Having said that, technically it could happen that a parent has not fore knowledge that such a surgery was to be performed until they were called to the hospital to pick up their child... unlikely but possible.
All true davidallen. But to suggest that a 15 year old has the capacity to make that decision alone while not being of age to be able to visit a tanning both, drive a car, get a tattoo, or vote, is pure unadulterated stupidity on the part of those who thought it up and helped make it happen.
It's not as if the age of 15 was identified for this and only this procedure - rather it is the age of medical consent in the state of Oregon. It applies to any procedure - including gender reassignment. I don't want anyone to have the impression that this age of consent was specifically selected for this procedure - we aren't that whacked out up here...
