Opening Weekend Results?

Vicariously here also, for the most part.

I slept til 11 this morning and really didn't realize it was the opener until i started seeing FB posts with dead deer.

Rough going here today. 30 mph winds and 72 degrees = little deer movement.

My dad, who never really got into deer hunting beyond an excuse to go out with his boys, decided he was going to hunt this year.

Apparently shot a decent 10-pointer last night on our place near Vinita. Haven't seen pics yet. He says it's the biggest he's shot, but that really doesn't mean much at all.

Weighed 142#, which is a fairly big body for that area.

Where I hunt, it's it over 15mph wind you might as well not go, but it did, and didn't see any until I drove around. Saw a doe by herself, no buck. I saw a nice buck later driving into town out in the middle of a field looking for does. Last night I saw a little 8pt and a spike cruising, a doe, and heard some hogs going crazy.

We have seen a bunch including a major county Muley. Grant county is absurd w the number of deer moving.

Not much moving down in Jefferson County over opening weekend.

Nice buck dally.

I passed on a nice 3 1/2 year old 8, and a mature 6 that need to go. I didn't want to burn my rifle tag on him. If i had my bow the six would have went down. He had about a 18 inch spread and 8 inch long G2. I think he was 3/12 or 4 1/2 (thin).

My seasons have nothing in common with Oklahoma, and we had the worst weather I've ever seen up here for hunting, but here is a meager contribution:

This is my foreman. He's in grad school right now, but he made it up two weekends and found this guy about 30 minutes before season end. We have seen this deer for a while and when he came up lame in October we really wanted to shoot him. Found a ball from a muzzleloader that went in his left flank and lodged in his right femur. Wouldn't have lasted the winter.

I had one day to hunt antelope this year and managed to get this guy during rifle season. Very lucky to get him. He scored pretty good so I was happy.

I don't have any other tags for Colorado, but I'm going to hit NEbraska, Oklahoma, and Arkansas before the end of January. Hopefully I can make something happen this winter, but I won't have much time.

We did have fun this year and saw a 375+ bull but he was around 1000 yards out and it took us over an hour to get to him. I was guiding a buddy of mine and we passed on a small bull that we didn't regret later.

I'm taking a couple of boys out this winter with a late season cow tag and so far I'm 2/2 on getting kids an elk. Praying I can get these boys a shot.

This was just officially scored at GROSS 148 5/8 and for CY CURTIS at net 135 2/8 (barely made the book).

I've seen a few slickheads...well everytime I've hunted but one evening. Saw a buck cruising one of my spots, but too far to understand what he was.

Not a ton of deer movement right now in Carter Co.
