Sure, a decent start, but this thing needs to be 12. Not 8. 12. 12 allows for all the top 1-loss teams to get in and removes the Art Briles dogma of scheduling down and banking on going undefeated. The result would be better scheduling and less bitching about who got in. Sure, #13 and #14 will be pissed, but isn't that more tolerable than #5 and #6 on the final list being left out because of an eye test or some such shit?

Top four seeds get a bye. Home field playoffs until the Final Four. Pretty simple. There are a thousand bowl games that won't be affected in any way by this except for the 3 that already are, and you reward high seeds with a few extra home games.
As it stands, it is possible for teams in the highest level of college football to not lose a game and still be shut out of a playoff. This is more ridiculous at this point than the BCS was.
