One Republican Congressman’s Opinion Of DJT

7Lo.gif

Nice thing the person comes out in public and says what they think instead of hiding behind anonymity......oh wait. These people continue to prove what cowards they are by hiding and throwing out their "opinion." Guess this person is more worried about being re-elected than making a principled stand. And these guys wonder why they have a 15% approval rating.

Great reply! But it leads to a myriad of questions for Trump supporters. For instance, let's suppose the congressman is accurate and Democrats take back the House & the Senate. Will Trump supporters rejoice that Republican sludge from the swamp has been drained? Or will you have concern that hard left wing Democrats now have the levers of power?

Ponca, I think they will take back the house anyway and would have whether Trump was there or not. That is a reflection of history, not so much the president. Senate isn't going to flip.

For me personally, when the hard core left takes the house back and starts to show their true colors it will only hurt them come 2020, which could ensure a Trump re-election and gains in the house and senate. Running on hating President Trump isn't much of a platform, but it will definitely work in some areas.

I also like that with each cycle you are starting to see more and more turnover. Like that many of these clowns (both sides of the aisle) aren't there forever like a Byrd, Thurmond or McCain.

The one caveat I have right now is that we are still a long way off for the election and lots could happen. Add in that Pelosi is leading the minority party (probably be majority leader) and that part of what the libs/dems want to do (at least they say) is retract the tax cuts, then bring it on. That is poison for them.....

I couldn’t care less what some worthless Republican Congressman thinks.
It is one thing not to care what a "worthless Republican Congressman thinks," but it might be appropriate to listen to what he says. He undoubtedly has his ear closer to the ground than we do. His very existence, his power is at stake, so I imagine he is following the trends very closely. I'll ask you: will you cheer if Republicans lose the House and/or the Senate to the Democrats? Will you be glad to see long- term Republicans get their comeuppance? Or will you shudder at the thought of what a radical Democratic majority might do? Will they impeach? Will you be glad if they do? Will you be in the least conflicted?

As a white male I can’t vote Democrat

They will be as dismayed as Mr. Obama's supporters were at the lack of hope and change.

The responses to this point have been fascinating. I assume most of you are from Oklahoma, which is perhaps the reddest state in the union. I assume most of you would identify as conservative. Reading your replies to my questions gives me to understand that your dissatisfaction with the Republican Party possibly exceeds your "fear" of the damage the Democrats might cause. There is no doubt the Republicans have played you for fools for quite some time, orating conservative themes but practicing big government interference into our lives. Is it fair to say you are fed up with the hypocrisy, so fed up you are willing to see your "team" lose, even though you believe the Democrats would be awful? Is that why you so adore Trump, who is a thin-skinned, pathological lying little intellectual moron? He promises to get rid of the hypocrites? So you accept almost anything he says or does because it is the "opposite" of what the establishment says and does?

If that is what you are thinking, then the Congressman in the link has far greater problems than he understands. If you are a national sample of traditional Republican voters, the RP is in deep, deep trouble. And, apparently, that won't bother you. Is it too early to say: RIP, Republican Party?

Neither of the two parties are going away.

I identify as a personally-conservative Libertarian. I don't care what you do, just don't step on my toes, or anyone else's for that matter, or I am going to confront you.

I thought the Republican Party was supposed to be dead a few years ago? Bro, they control Congress and Trump is in the WH.

You really hate this guy. I love it that people, especially people I hate (not you), hate him. Probably shallow and immature, but I can’t get any satisfaction from the Republicans nor the Democrats and the libertarian party can’t put up a qualified candidate (and you call trump an intellectual moron), so this is what I’m left with.

Oh yeah, and the Dems hate white males so f them.

Squeak, sometimes you make me laugh out loud! Your last sentence pretty much sums it up for you, I suppose. You are right, I hate Trump, but only in the context that I hate them all: Republicans, Democrats, Libertarian Party, Greens, you name it. My hatred for Trump is not isolated to him! Trump is an enigma to me. He strikes me as a man with below average intelligence, but who is fiendishly clever.

But that is not the point of my questions. Do any of you think Trump has dealt a death blow to the Republican Party as we have always known it? How many politicians feel the way about the man the Congressman in the link feels? Are they just biding their time till they can dump him? Publically endorse him, privately fight against him every chance they get. Are they willing to lose control of one of the houses if that hurries his departure?

There is no doubt the establishment is dug in like a tick on a dog's ear. They are not going away without a fight. They are expert at the hand-to-hand of political infighting. I'm very curious what people who have previously voted Republican see as the future of the party. Do any of you think Trump will change the nature of the Party? If so, what changes to you foresee?

Absolutely. He proved that trying to play nice with the Libs and the media is a losing ticket and telling them to go jump in a lake can get you a win.

He disrespected the political establishment and elitists and won the respect of a lot of voters in the process. As much as many disdain him, they still respect the fact that he didn't bow to the queen and her cronies.

If I could think of one word (hyphenated) to describe @davidallen it would be self-loathing.
No way davidallen is self-loathing. He lives on the Left Coast and Democrat is like fluoride added to water, if you drink anything from the public water supply, you're going to ingest it.

Boomer Republicans blew it badly when it came to immigration.

The left played to win on this, and you all were asleep at the wheel. For decade after decade.

That’s Boomer Republican politicians and voters alike.

Playing identity politics at its finest here NZ.

Kudos for the hypocrisy.

What you say is absolutely true of Trump. Do you think it will transcend him, survive past his presidency? Or is it his attitude alone, and will die out as soon as he departs office? Personally I think it dies with his leaving. But I am not a Republican, so what do I know?

Trump beat 15 establishment Republicans (well mostly establishment). I think something is up.

I hope it is a new attitude. I don't trust cowards and most politicians seem to be chicken-brave.
