One hell of a project...

Getting to the midpoint on a project here at the house and wanted to share...

Kids wanted a tree house. I have issues of being a bit over the top. So, got a professionally engineered set of plans, the brackets, tree attachment bolts, hardware, scaffolding, and nearly a ton of lumber...

The hardware is super heavy duty:

16' across octagon - 20' up in the air. The goal this year is to get it decked, railed, and a ladder up. Then next year we will get a structure of some kind up there...

The wife is hovering somewhere around (-1) - the 8 YO was probably at a 9. The 11 YO is such a daddy's girl that I get a 10 for sleeping in on a Saturday...

They were super excited when I started about 6 weeks ago - but at this age they have moved on to anxiety about starting at a new school as their number one concern.

So, basically this project is just for you.... By the time you finish it, the kids will have lost interest and it will be all about you showing off to friends who come over. Now, if you can get wi fi out there, install some type of heating system and a mini fridge, it will make for a super cool man cave on game day.

Only injury thus far has been a goose egg to the forehead - I was up about 14' putting in one of the knee braces and the high torque drill slipped out of my hand came around and whacked me pretty good. I just held on to the ladder as I saw stars... Knock on wood we are past the most risky parts!

You can stay up there when you come for the Oregon State game in 2019 - should be done by then!

One dream item I really want is a Pete Nelson tree house up at my Gramps place in Maine. For one tree houses are the ultimate hide out for the Zombie apocalypse. Never understood why Walking dead didn't try to incorporate that into the story line some how.

Thanks guys... gotta wrap up the platform this weekend then start thinking about structure. The engineered components were from Michael Garnier (fellow Oregonian) the older structure expert on the Treehouse Guys series. I had no idea he was on that program until I watched a marathon last night!

Good weekend - progress!

Scaffolding is down (and returned to the rental place - they erected a statue to me out front)...

Had the kiddos help with some rigging on a shuttle to move up lumber for the decking...

And both the kids took a turn running the drill...

By end of the day we had about 40% of the decking down...

That is a 24' Werner ladder that is stretched to the max... thinking of moving to a hatch for access as I don't like the idea of not having railing all the way around.

I'm jealous you had a tree like that to work with. I have built a playset and deck the last two years that were a lot of fun. This is something else though. Good job.
