On this day in 325, the 1st large scale business meeting of the Christian church was held. The Council of Nicaea was convened by Constantine to discuss Christ’s diety. Arius, from Alexandria, was one of the few who argued against Jesus being divine. One participant, Nicholas of Myra, became so angry that he actually hit Arius in the face. Arius went on to become one of history’s most hated heretics. Nicholas went on to wear red clothes and give out presents at Christmas while holding a Coke. Yep, that Saint Nicholas.
