On this day in 490 BC, tho' vastly outnumbered by an invading Persian army, Athenian forces defeated Darius I's army, stopping the Persians from controlling Greece. A young soldier named Phidippides raced 26 miles to Athens to deliver the message, "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything", and died. (Ok, ok, I made a little of this up.)
