Woody Fest in Okemah for first time last night...Should be on every Oklahoman and Texan and music lover's bucket list...

Butch Hancock, Red Dirt Rangers, Lloyd Maines and Terri Hendrix last night; Shawna Russell today with John Fullbright capping it tonight...

Free music all over the city..lot of young talent, charged a cover for Pastures of Plenty stage this year (23rd year) for first time to keep everthing rolling

First class all the way even after the floods...400+ at outdoor stage last night...Great lineup of sponsors, they're building a permanent stage and in it for the long haul...

Recommend: 5* * * * *

Many different stages around town.

Big main, headliner stage had an charge for the first time this year.

Most of the other venues are free.

Fullbright KILLED for 90 minutes tonight..

Takes stage 11 pm sharp--opens guitar with Okemah High Fight Song!!! Crowd went nuts!!!

Then he goes into 3 straight Woody-to-the-bone songs that brought the son of Okfuskee right back to life:

1. "Dough-Re-Mi"

2."Dust Storm"
Duststorm killed my baby but it cant kill me
Duststorm killed my crop but it cant kill me
Banker took my land but he cant kill me
Tractor plowed my house but it cant kill me

3.Deportee

Then he hit the keyboard for "Oklahoma Hills"

Followed by half-dozen of his new stuff

Finale: "Walls of Jericho"

Encore: 30 musicians on the Big Stage for 10 verses and choruses of "This Land is Your Land"

At this point the Okemah mayor takes the stage to announce official proclamation that the new loop in Okemah will be called John Fullbright Way

BTW--Shawna Russell was the last free show of the Fest--note to organizers: until further notice Shawna Russell always belongs on the Big Stage...Shawna's already got her road in Okemah!!!

Cant wait til next year...Fullbright and Shawna should guarantee it's there for at least 18 more
