Okla Ed Assoc: "Teaching is political."

There is NO excuse with the influx of $$$$$$$$ from the Casinos and pot dispensaries for the public schools to 'do much better' than in years past before getting this largess, in my opinion

Let’s be clear. There are A LOT of teachers that don’t feel like the author of the article. Teaching is NOT a political act. It is a job and a service. Teachers that care about students (which is vast majority) deserve praise, thanks, and support.

The teacher walkout of 2017 was an embarrassment. It taught students all the wrong messages. The teacher union is one of the largest impediments to educational growth in our state. It is a great resource for teachers that just want job security and rewards just for tenure, but is fully against rewarding good teachers. As such, great teachers don’t join the union and the union ends up being comprised of an inordinate amount of poor teachers. Outsiders see teacher union members and believe all teachers are not good.

Insulation for the incompetents.

The union is absolutely one of the top, if not the top problem. When I taught and declined to join the union, they basically let me know that if I got in a bind they would be "too busy" to help. Think about the implications here, especially if you are erroneously charged with a criminal offense because you held some kid accountable for lousy work or misbehaving let alone accused of something by a teacher who is a union member. They are almost like a legalized mafia.

There are lots of good teachers, completely agree but this deal with have to get sorted out before I ever vote for another teacher raise.
