Ocasio-Cortez can't answer how to pay for her ideas

For once i agree with Trevor Noah... everyone likes her ideas and would agree with them. But, it doesn't seem very plausible to fund these ideas on a large scale.

Just passed a 2 trillion dollar tax cut, spend 700 billion plus on the military, and payed 12 billion to soybean farmers.

Free college would cost 75 billion a year. I am pretty sure we can afford it.

I'm saying most would in a general sense... like giving everyone 'access' to education but how do you pay for it? i've yet to hear a realistic idea
Everyone does have access today. It’s damn expensive for sure, but it absolutely needs a cost to the person using the service. They need skin in the game, and actually a decent amount. If it’s “free” people won’t respect it, we get too many people that don’t really want to be there and it devalues the degree for the rest of us.

We need fewer people getting college degrees, not more people. We need fewer degree options in colleges as well.

Why do we need fewer people getting college degrees?

What amazes me is that anybody can think it's free.

In aggregate, there is no additional cost, just a shift in who pays. Same for Medicare for all.
So if there's a shift in who pays that means somebody pays, which means it isn't free. So, for the love of God, please quit calling for "free" stuff! Be honest and say you want other people to pay for things so you can have them for free.

Why didn't Obama and company just pool the pre-existing condition folks with Medicare in Obamacare to begin with?

If reimbursement under Medicare for All will look like the current Medicare reimbursement, our current healthcare system will be doomed. Medicare doesn't always cover the actual cost to provide the service. And CMS has actually contributed to the opiate crisis by tying a significant portion of reimbursement to patient satisfaction scores. Pretty stupid idea on their part.

And finally, by Medicare for All, do we mean Medicare for everyone? Complete elimination of the private insurance market? If that's part of the plan, I'll be willing to listen. If the plan is Medicare for the masses but private insurance for the wealthy, nope, not ever going to consider it.

OK OK we can do the pedantry thing. Free to students college. Happy?

Actually, she's more of a narrativephyte. She's heard someone's brain diarrhea and repeated it.
She said she needed to get with the leftist activists to have them tell her what to say. What a dunce. If she wins then sit a robot in her chair in Congress and save the salary, benefits, perks and pension.

Costs aren't fixed.

Comrade! But in seriousness whoever is the one to actually implement Medicare for All will likely be a bit of a pussyhat and allow private insurance to continue to exist.

How about diesel mechanics and HVAC technicians?
I drove past three cement companies yesterday which all had huge signs wanting drivers. Also, have been stranded behind student drivers at 18-wheeler driving schools. At least someone sees the opportunities. Too bad so many are dumber than rocks.

No I'm not happy. Why "free" college? Why not "free" haircuts? "Free" ice cream cones? "Free" lap dances? Instead, why don't we advise that everybody take responsibility for their own well being? If there are people that "fall through the cracks" there are plenty of people like you and me that will pony up to help them, aren't there? We can each decide to whom and what we want to give aid. You want to donate to Planned Parenthood, be my guest. I'm not interested. I want to donate to Doctors Without Borders, not Planned Parenthood. Why is it people such as yourself are so determined to trap us into a top-down authoritarian society?

Is that the correct term?

Costs aren't fixed.
Never said they were. A healthcare system can't operate in the black with 100% Medicare patients at current reimbursement.

And the allowance for private insurance to exist will create what most folks loathe about the government healthcare systems we point to as models.

Why do we need fewer people getting college degrees?

We don't. We need more people getting more degrees that provide real value to the general public. Why do we want to treat all degrees as equal, and why would the government subsidize stupid decisions? We know we have a deficit of STEM personnel, so if the government wants to boost those enrollments through college funding, then you'll get my support. But taxing me so another kid can get a market-worthless Bachelor of Arts in psycology is a waste of my taxpayer money and the kid's time. The role of government is to advance society and solve problems. Our problem is not that our youth and society is undereducated. Our problem is that we aren't educated in the RIGHT things. You solve that by targeting the RIGHT things.

Dan, you are the last person in the world I would expect to be happy about that public financing of a public good. I meant, "are you happy that I indicated that it is only free to the students?"

No, but there are a shitload of both with college degrees that can’t find work because they went to a $100k a year lib art school and majored in art history.
They can't find work? In the Trump economy?

Nothing about authoritarianism makes me happy, including parsing words to hide the truth of what it is.

Would be great if technical schools were free (to students) too.

Many of them are, or have significant grant opportunities available. They are certainly cheaper than equivalent college options (faster too). I know when I was in high school, I could take the first year of Vo-tech free as part of my High School curriculum.

Never said they were. A healthcare system can't operate in the black with 100% Medicare patients at current reimbursement.
You are probably right. Costs will have to adjust.

We will have to fight that allowance.

My stepdaughter has Bachelor of Arts in Theater from UNT. She currently works for Panera Bread. Example A of Stupid degree left her unequipped for a real world job. But that stupid degree wasn't any less expensive.
