Agreed.
Both sides seem to be overplaying the matter.
Well, duh.
It's all about the midterms.
Agreed.
Both sides seem to be overplaying the matter.
What do you think people like me want? Wide open borders with no border patrol or fencing? I mean, do you really think that there is a large number of Americans who want literal open borders?
Again, yes. Just look at your own reactions to wanting to stop migrant caravans and end birthright citizenship for NON-resident aliens. What conclusion could anyone draw except that you are at least open to open borders and a great many people specifically are saying they want that. It's not a small number of people who want open borders.
Except that maybe they do. Why did Obama have the citizenship question removed from the census and why are Republicans putting it back in? You do know what important things are based on the census, right?Democrats in leadership really don't have anything to gain by implementing a completely open border policy.

I'm not talking about literal open borders. I'm talking about what has become the status quo.Not convinced. Too many potential pitfalls with fighting for open borders. One terrorist walks in without having to avoid any security, and causes mass destruction, and the Dem party is done for. There are other fairly obvious pitfalls as well.
Nope. It's back in for 2020.I thought that the GOP backed off on keeping the citizenship question in.
Do you think illegals should count toward House apportionment?I think there is a legitimate argument for not including it, especially with the increase in ICE deportations under Trump. No way you are going to get accurate census numbers with that question on there, now.

Probably not. But, as I said, including the question may do more harm than good (when it comes to getting accurate numbers).
I'm anti-wall. Some sections probably benefit from a wall, but some long continuous wall is a disastrous idea for migratory animals. My counter would be that the SQ is unacceptable. There are probably ways to improve the problems without a wall. I'm not convinced the wall is tenable for a few reasons. Also not convinced it will stop the migration. But, I concede that it will slow it. It seems like the SQ is what it has been for quite a while, but I would have to do some research to confirm.
If people from the caravan throw rocks at our troops Trump considers them to be like firearms.
Throw a rock, get shot.
That guy doesn't know the ROE is given to the Joint Chiefs by the President and the Sec of Defense?
Toon, if you were standing with me and you were injured by a rock(s) I would defend you and I both.
In a civilian setting, you can't justify shooting someone throwing rocks. Ever. That guy doesn't know the ROE is given to the Joint Chiefs by the President and the Sec of Defense?

I would be just as much worried about a couple of guys coming toward me throwing rocks than the same couple of guys with knives.
You would?
I wouldn’t.
Would you be just as worried about a couple of guys coming toward you throwing rocks than the same couple of guys with guns?
I have never been hit by a rock, but I have a golf ball twice. One time was in the knee and it really screwed it up. I believe that has to be close to the damage a rock can do, and if it was in the head?
Just look at what a baseball does to player heads/faces and they are way better at dodging them than you and I will ever be. You think normal people can dodge a rock? Professional baseball players mostly come from "Southern" American now how many of them throw like sissy's?
I said guns because that is what most here are saying is the only reason you could shoot someone. I just think knives, rocks and guns are much the same.
I guess it’s just a range/accuracy vs. lethality ratio to me. The further away they are with the rocks, the less real, serious danger rocks pose....particularly with regards
Average dudes (even from “Southern” America...I don’t think you can impart the same level of throwing skill and power to migrants as you can professional baseball players) throwing rocks at me (as opposed to a golf ball hit with much more force from a swing of a golf club) are gonna be in a range of where they can do real, serious damage that is similar to the closing range of their knives (old 21 foot rule)....and the knifes are much more lethal.
With regards to the migrants, you also have to figure in the likelihood that border patrol and military are gonna have riot gear and defensive equipment that you and I aren’t gonna have walking down the street.
In a civilian setting, you can't justify shooting someone throwing rocks. Ever.
Are you considering that only one person is throwing them? Also, if a rock hits you from 50 feet vs 200 feet does it cause less damage really? Is that not like saying a bullet will do less harm at 1000 yards than 2000? I call BS.. A hard object is a hard object. That is why dropping pennies from a tall building will hurt people or shooting a bullet straight up into the air will not kill people if it hits them before hitting the ground.
In the scenario you proposed, you said a couple...so that’s what I am considering.
I am referring to skill the same as people who wrestle more than others are better than those who dont. (you know this) I wrestled for 12 years, and I am way better than most, but you would destroy me now. You think Chinese people are good at throwing stuff?
Migrants throw rocks more often than others? Central Americans? Are Central Americans are better than Chinese people than throwing stuff? Never really thought about it. Don’t know. Don’t really understand where you are going with this.
What distance will you agree to stand away from me and let me throw rocks at you? I highly doubt that anyone would shoot anyone throwing a rock at them from further than it could hit them. If I was 200 feet would you be okay with that and not feel in any danger? You think Sysk would stand there in your place for that? Might be a fun way to test the fear and damage a rock can do.. Sounds like fun to me..
At no distance would I agree to stand and let you throw rocks at me. I thought the original scenario we were discussing was a couple of guys with rocks vs. a couple of guys with knives and which would worry me more. Nowhere was there a discussion ofI don’t get to defend myself. Of course, the further away they are, the less accurate they’re gonna be so the further away, the better.
Edit; How many of our troops have access to shields? Not sure how they would carry them and be able to use a gun.. I guess they drop one or the other depending on what is going on?
You send personnel to quell a potential riot, you damn sure better give them equipment best suited for doing that job as far as I am concerned.
I hope a LOL is justified in this case. I just got whipped. Nice..
I would agree...trump knows without a shadow of a doubt they won't fire on the migrants for throwing rocks...it's show time though.I hadn’t even convinced myself that in your original scenario you were definitely wrong and I was definitely right. I was genuinely interested in THAT scenario without regards to transferring it to the migrant caravan.
It’s something that reasonable minds could probably disagree on and for which there is no definitive correct answer. That’s probably even more true if you are talking about a large mass of people with ample rocks attacking a border or fixed location vs. a large mass of people with only knives attacking that same fixed location.
I still don’t think that guns and actual live fire is the proper response to rocks being thrown. There are just too many appropriate crowd control/riot responses from smoke and tear gas to less than lethal rounds if all they have are rocks and our forces are properly equipped for crowd control/riots.
What’s more, I don’t think Trump really believes it is if he really stops to think about it. It struck me as more of him shooting his mouth off with tough guy talk. He is certainly prone to doing that, IMO.
