So my buddy and I were discussing the best TV show intro's from the 70's and 80's, and, of course, I decided the best thing to do was go completely overboard and create a 32 "Intro" tournament bracket and let the people decide. I created a thread for each match up, complete with videos and a poll for voting, and I also posted a link to the bracket I created. First round voting will stay open for 5 days. Once we have the results, I'll update the bracket and create the match up threads for the 2nd round and so on.

This is my "once every 5 year" attempted contribution to the board, and it'll at least give us something to do now that we've officially entered the dog days of summer. There's some 60's/70's overlap and some 80's/90's overlap, but as long as the show identified as a 70's or 80's show, it was fair game. Of course, this is all subjective. Music was part of the criteria, but I also considered other factors such as great action in the intro, iconic images, iconic characters, cool voice overs, how memorable the intro was, etc. And yes, I do have too much time on my hands.

Need to get the other matchups moved over. I think there are still five left over on the other board.

I'm an idiot. It's intro songs not the actual show? I guess my reading comprehension is worse than I though. Can I have my ability to vote reinstated I need to revaluate.

Not the show. The complete intro young man, not just the theme song. Sorry, you'll have to live with your decisions, but you can attempt to redeem yourself in the 2nd round.

Just based on the intro music I would still say All in the Family is a top Five, Other good ones from that era The Brady Bunch, Eight is Enough and Love American Style.

Now I am understanding how some of these votes seem so out of whack. Apparently some of you guys didn't understand what your are voting on.

Alright, so despite a gaffe or two or three by the Ghost, and despite possibly half of everyone who voted not quite understanding what they were voting on...it looks like we're set up for some tough and interesting 2nd round match ups. The first round polls have closed with some interesting results. While Dallas and The Fall Guy pulled away to earn lackluster victories, #6 Night Court, #4 Happy Days, and #5 Sanford & Son steamrolled to blowout victories. Will a #1 go down in the 2nd round? The #2's appear to be in for a dogfight as well. Could #6 Night Court be the Cinderella?

Remember, we're voting on the best intro (not just the song, but the complete intro) and NOT the best show. I'll update the bracket with the results and get the 2nd round match up threads posted. I'll also ask Jeff to take down the 1st round threads after I update the bracket.

2nd round match ups are posted and bracket is updated. Vote your hind quarters off.

Second round is in the bag and we're off to the Quarterfinals! Dukes, Cheers, and A-Team continued their assault on the field with another round of blow out victories. Happy Days scored the first knockout over a #1, easily disposing of The Fall Guy. How will the Fonz fare against the General Lee? Miami Vice escaped Sanford's upset bit with a 1 point victory, setting up a fascinating match up with #3 MASH. Dallas vs A-Team and Magnum vs Cheers should be outstanding match ups as well. Quarterfinal polls will stay open for 3 days. Let's pick up the voting numbers and smash the world record voting total for tv show intro tournament voting! Match ups will be posted shortly and I'll ask Jeff to delete the old ones.

Championship week is here and the people have spoken! Dukes, MASH, and Cheers all cruised in to the Final 4 riding a tidal wave of momentum. A-Team squeaked out a 1 point nail biter over Dallas and will be in for a dogfight with Cheers. Dukes vs MASH should be a battle for the ages. Something has to give...what will it be?

The moment approximately 30-35 people have been waiting for is here...THE FINALS! Cheers absolutely dumptrucked A-Team in a 23-5 blowout the likes of which has never before been witnessed in a TV show intro tournament Final Four matchup! Dukes pulled away from MASH and won comfortably 17-12, but them ole' Duke boys will have to do better than that if they plan on bringing home the hardware. Line is set at Dukes +3.5. Can they pull off the upset? Heck, can they even cover? We shall see.

It's been a tough three weeks, but it's finally official! Dukes of Hazzard is the greatest intro from the 70's/80's in the history of the Universe. There's about 30 people on this board who will finally be able to sleep through the night again. Thanks for playing. I'll be back in about 5 years to do something even dumber than this.
