Why not call a spade a spade. I thought we looked terrible. For those that say we stayed vanilla, you are right. When you can not line up against Central Mich and block a simple play why should you try to run anything more complicated? The OL looked very bad. Slow, soft and weak. No explosion. I do not care how old they are or how much experience they have, when the ball is snapped and the first thing they do is stand up instead of firing forward they give up pad level, impact, and leverage. WR blocking was bad as well.

Carson was unimpressive. Childs looked much quicker to me. Rudolph played about as expected.

67 plays per game is weak in my opinion but why would you want to run more when you can't block the plays that you do run? I give the offense a D grade. The only reason they do not get an F is because of no TO's.

The defense was not much better. The DL was the only part of the D that played as good or better than I expected. I thought all of the tackles played well. The DE's got pressure and made plays.

Where were the LB's? Out of position on a lot of plays.

Speed does not help you if you are running the wrong direction. On the halfback pass the Central Michigan receiver had to wait almost 2 seconds for the ball to get there and still was not covered. Pathetic. Containment of a slow, white, pudgy QB was awful. We made him look like Brett Farve. Pathetic.

I give the defense a D grade. The only reason they don't get an F is the play of the DL.

Can they improve? Well, you certainly have to hope so. When you play that bad, there are only 2 options. Stay the same or get better.
