FYI, it also looks like Pat Downey will be transferring to Iowa.
Wrassler, I don't know for certain but I believe it is because he did not want to stay at 125 and wants to wrestle 133 and Cael did not agree. I think in the discussions with the Dad bad blood ensued and it just snow-balled into a full blown controversy.I've been trying to follow this story on the various boards for the last month or so. I don't think anyone really knows what happened or why.
FYI, it also looks like Pat Downey will be transferring to Iowa and Joey McKenna may be transferring to Ohio State. I was really hoping to see us land a couple of upper weight transfers, but I don't know how likely that is with registration deadlines approaching.
People (random internet posters) seem to think McKenna would be eligible immediately and go 149 for Ohio State. I'm not saying they beat Penn State but if Ohio State gets Nato at 125 and McKenna at 149 they might be able to at least make PSU sweat.
It is kind of crazy some of the lineups both OSUs could throw out and PSU still probably smashes everyone.
I agree with this. tOSU was impressive in the Tournament, not far off from PSU.People (random internet posters) seem to think McKenna would be eligible immediately and go 149 for Ohio State. If Ohio State does get McKenna, I think tOSU and PSU will be in a close race.
FYI, Flo streamed the Ohio State wrestleoffs. Joey McKenna won the first match 3-2 against Ke-Shawn Hayes for the 141 spot, but he was injured in the 2nd match and had to default. Don't know the extent of the injury. He does have a redshirt available if necessary.
I actually think Hayes at 141 and Mckenna at 149 scores them more points at nationals but the better guy gets the pick and if Mckenna is beating Hayes and wants 141 he gets it.
I see McKenna as top 6 guy at 141 and Hayes top 7-8 guy 149I agree.
141 will be a real meat grinder again this year. Yianni is a guy to keep an eye on. I think Tristan has a mat game that is similar to Yianni's and Eierman's, so that's should help Dean.
Hayes wrestled 30 matches in his redshirt year and lost once which was to Kolodzik who he later beat. Could absolutely see him placing at 141 his issues have been on bottom which I noticed last year before he got hurt. Yesterday’s wrestleoffs kinda made it clear why both guys would prefer 141I see McKenna as top 6 guy at 141 and Hayes top 7-8 guy 149
If Hayes goes 141 I don't think he is a AA
McKenna 149 is top 6
So I think they're better off with McKenna at 141
Yes his issues on bottom is what I believe will keep him from AA this year at 141 with the depth in the weight class .He lost 6-0 to Jack last year which was another sign of his bottom struggles.Hayes wrestled 30 matches in his redshirt year and lost once which was to Kolodzik who he later beat. I think if his talent on his feet and and even on top can negate that he could do something at nationals. It worked out that way for Micah Jordan.Yes his issues on bottom is what I believe will keep him from AA this year at 141 with the depth in the weight class .He lost 6-0 to Jack last year which was another sign of his bottom struggles.
Agreed thats why I was hoping Hayes would be the guy at 141Hayes doesn't have the size and strength for 149 and think he will struggle against the top 12-15 guys at that weight. I think Mckenna is a 5-8 guy at either weight and Hayes would certainly have a better chance at scoring at 141.
