NFL bans publically disrespecting the national anthem

All of the lefty media tears about this are very satisfying despite me thinking this is a really stupid thing for the NFL to do.

It should be left as an individual team decision, not league policy. The supporting owners voted to fine themselves for their players behavior and they'll likely have to battle the Player's Association to be able to pass the fine to the individuals involved. That's like ClinToon claiming he's winning while sucking up all of the air in the basement of his folks house.

Nothing but a lousy attempt at a PR move to respond to declining ratings.

I do not like seeing people disrespect our Flag.........but.......because of what our flag stands for, people are allowed to do just that. I have said several times, my wife is British, but, she stands for our national anthem and always shows respect. I never told her, nor would I have, to do that, she just does it, and it means a lot to me that she does. I have always done the same when we lived in England and their national anthem was played. Now, as a military member we were required to stand at attention and render a salute to all of our allies national anthems , we show them the same respect that we show our own, but I still do it to this day. But saying all of this, I will never challenge a person's right to not show respect, our country gives us the freedom to be able to make that choice, there are many countries that do not give there citizens that choice

NFL players are employees subject to the workplace rules of their employer, just like many other businesses. I can't wear a shirt that says "Fvck Trump" to work. In fact, I'm required to wear a uniform. If the NFL says they have to stand for the anthem or remain in the locker room or face penalties, they have to stand for the anthem or face the consequences.

Should the NFL not have any rules to protect their brand and business? Drug testing? Uniform policy? This isn't a free speech issue. The NFL is not the government.

The NFL has the right to enforce this policy, I am not saying they don't , it is a business, I will just never put anyone down for deciding they don;t want to stand for the Anthem, or recite the Pledge of allegiance, or not want to say a prayer or want to say one, we have the freedom to make those choices. I have been to plenty of places where people don't have those rights. What I don't agree with is the government pressuring the NFL into this.

So President Trump’s tweet after tweet had no bearing on this at all?
Why would it? Check out the news. The NFL doesn't need Trump to show them their ratings are down. They even commissioned a survey to ask people about a wide range of issues in the NFL. Pinning this on Trump is just Trumpanzee stuff.

You do realize they’re not being prosecuted right? They’re being told by their employers what the F to do. Their employers bent to public pressure and rightly so. It’s a smart PR move.

It is a band aid, focus will now be on who is not coming out of the locker room to protest. Screw the NFL and all these rich athletes cramming their political views down our throat while disrespecting the symbol our military fights and dies under. I hope the NFL ends up losing so much money over this that they have to restructure all of these contracts and pay these ungrateful athletes far, far, less.

Want to protest or make a statement? Do it on your own dime and time, put some skin in the game and respect your employer and fans. I would be fired as an employee at my company if I disrespected the flag during the national anthem at one of our events, as I should be.

Last year was the least amount of NFL football I have watched in my life, not even close. Probably watched a total of 4 games the entire year. Sorry, but country and that flag comes before athletes that have been coddled and treated like gods since high school and now are making millions.

Sad part many of the people they are wanting to gain back will not care about this announcement, good chance they lost some viewers for good and it still allows a form protest IMO.

I know I may never look at the NFL players association and the NFL the same again.

Trump is one nfl fan with a large audience. The government has and will continue to do nothing.

I think you have been in the UK too long or read too many stories from The Guardian. The government in no way shape or form pressured the NFL.

People pressured the NFL with their own decisions not to watch or attend. The players pressured the NFL by being foolish. I say foolish because the kneeling players make millions and they chose a forum that paints the NFL and themselves in a bad light. What they claimed to be protesting did not match up with the idea of kneeling for the national anthem.
Their actions was costing owners, and ultimately players, money and the NFL decided to end it.

Still waiting for when UK and I’ll agree on something.....

Stand for the anthem period! The kneeling was weak, chicken shit and a guaranteed loser from the beginning. Especially when some of these clowns have lying garbage flowing out of their pie holes as a reason for kneeling. If you really want to protest donate a games salary to an inner-city charity of your choice! Or better yet say you’re not going to play the next game as a protest.

I’ll never presume to speak for a soldier, especially a KIA on his opinion about standing or kneeling during the National Anthem. It’s a sign of respect for sacrifices made in times of national emergencies or peril and as such kneeling doesn’t seem like an appropriate response to thank those millions who went before you to give you the opportunity to play a dam game for more money in a year, then most will make in a lifetime or to voice your “opinion” of some social injustice which is not even the reason you’re on the field. Got no problem with protesting a plethora of issues currently faced by many different groups in the US, just don’t do it at a sporting event that people go to, for the very reason they want to escape politics and the associated BS. As ESPN has found out.....”if politics isn’t your business, then keep your business out of politics.”

This was the owners and a league trying to stop the hemorrhaging of viewers and advertisers. Most people find that once they quit watching these games and find other things to do it gives them more time to sit back and think about how much time they have wasted on Sunday’s and just what they are watching..... I quit watching long ago because one quit betting, but as important was tired of the showboating, especially the ridiculous individual celebrations while your team was still getting their asses kicked. The blackmailing of cities to underwrite new stadiums and do on.

I probably will tune in some from time to time this year though to see how MR & JW are doing.

Perhaps I misunderstood what he was saying. I did not think he was saying the government was interfering, but rather he would be opposed if the government attempted to interfere.
