New coke ad

For the record I enjoy two attractive females smooching on eachother. I think gays should be able to get married, but I think it is a post puberty issue and should not be in a coke ad or a Disney movie.

Also for the record if we were in Ancient Greece we would all be gay pedophiles by today's standards. It would be as normal as a ham sandwich.

Dumb commercial regardless of gayness or not. People get paid big money for this shit?

I'm not sure what circles you are in, but I would say homosexuality is pretty common these days.

The CDC study on sexuality in 2013, the first of its kind, established that 1.6% of the population is gay. Nary a word about it in the media, since it refuted the standard claims of the left that 5-10% of the population is gay. I wouldn't consider 1.6% of the population as "pretty common."

or someone just thinks it is common because of it's prevalence on TV shows, movies, music, news etc etc etc .. I think what you hear and see in the media is higher than a 1.6% the study shows.

Also, the OP specifically spoke about children

I'm a believer in 'to each their own'. So I have no issues with Coke doing this. But if I'm the Coke CEO, I'm firing my ad agency because this doesn't sell any more cokes and it certainly runs the risk of offending some of your more conservative current customers. I hated Jordan and the Bulls, (I was a huge Pistons fan growing up), but he's right when asked why he didn't get involved in political stances: "Republicans buy shoes too."

That split second of equality Utopia probably (and sadly) just cost Coke some customers.

Yeah right. What are they going to do? Drink Pepsi?

No idea. I'm not one of them. But if you think that the left has a monopoly on easily offended snowflakes then I'm sorry, but you're wrong. The same group of people who have made Ivanka #1 on Amazon, will find ways to avoid brands that they view are hostile to their beliefs.

I seriously doubt this affects Coke's bottom line one bit. Whatever they lose to conservatives they'll probably gain with all of the free advertising they get as people talk about this ad. Additionally, most of the people I know are pretty brand loyal and do not see Coke=Pepsi. Bottom line....90% of the population won't give a shit and the other 10% will cancel each other out.

You may be right. I just don't see this ad driving a bunch of new millennials to buying Coke products (if they weren't already), but I can see this driving some extreme conservatives to not buy Coke. But maybe the added publicity of the ad, could serve to influence millennials more than I'd anticipate.

Soda pop is bad for you. Sugar is bad for you. Gays in commercials aren't. However, it's interesting that they would put it in a mainstream ad.

Seems risky but I'm sure there's a science to it.

Personally, no shits do I give.

No problem explaining this to a seven year old? I don't want to explain anything that is 2% of the population or something that goes against everything they see day in and day out.

The percentage is skewed toward metropolitan areas. Gavin mcinnes says 25% of New York city is gay and no one in the suburbs is gay.

No, not really any problem explaining it to a seven year old.

Big problem with thinking that Coke shouldn't be allowed to do the ad by government. I know that isn't your stated position. As far as should they or shouldn't they, I'm good with market forces and actions letting them know that.

I guess I'm a bigot. I don't want my kids to know about non traditional families or gender fluidity until they absolutely have to. I had to explain my cousins divorce to them and I saw them lose innocence as I explained it. I have another cousin who has two kids with his girlfriend and same thing when I explained that some people just live together, they don't get married.

There is so much time to learn about this stuff when you have some years under your belt and better processing skills.

I don't think having this parenting belief makes you a bad parent.....just a different type than me.

Great marketing; people are buying into 1-10% is common. If you say it enough times...it must be okay. I'm waiting for Coke to have a Christian focused ad...I'm sure there is at least 1% of the population claiming Christianity. Oh, but that isn't on the agenda.

If only it was easier to be Christian in this country.

I would imagine the only agenda Coke has is selling as much of their product as possible to whomever they can convince to buy it.

Maybe this all to distract us from the fact that they sell sweet delicious poison that is killing us all?
