INDIANAPOLIS --

The NCAA released Thursday the first of four coaches' panel rankings for the 2014-15 wrestling season. The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This year's event is March 19-21 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

133 - Gary Wayne Harding will be in the ranking pretty soon.

I see us sending 9 to Nationals, unless 197 can perform a miracle at the Big 12 Tourney.

So what is the plan for this year since the big 12 tournament isn't a qualifying tournament? Big 12 is the same day as the WWC in Fargo, which I believe is the qualifier for big 12 teams. If I was fighting for a spot I think I would be in ND. If all the guys fighting for a spot go to ND is there a point for anyone else to go? I'm a bit surprised the big 12 is still scheduled unless there has been a change.

What is the plan for big 12s and the WWC, they are the same day, March 7th. I believe the WWC is the qualifier for big 12 schools.

A knowledgeable poster on our board said that the combined qualifier was nixed

I was wondering about that, they ranked big 12 wrestlers as big 12, but they haven't updated the list of qualifying tournaments if it was nixed. I wouldn't mind seeing a bigger qualifier.

The Big XII hasn't been on the list of qualifiers for a few years, ever since it went down to four schools. So I wouldn't read anything into that.

I do wish that the conference would make an official announcement about what the plan is. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that something is going on behind the scenes that would give the Big XII a one year reprieve.

Lacking that, it would be nice to see some clarification about how qualifying out of the Big XII will work - will Big XII wrestlers who meet the silver/gold standard get extra at large spots held back for them? Or will there still only be four at large spots at each weight?
