I don't want to harp on it but I just noticed the article on Tom Ryan's disagreeing with the officiating from Flo. Being at the the event the consistency of officiating is horrific.
Collica's first loss went down just as the loss to Zain. Collica would get to his feet with the other wrestler hanging on him and be called over and over as a stalemate. Never once with a warning being given out. Two matches later on the same mat same thing happened. Top wrestler received three warnings in a row.
I watched over and over as coach's reviews were upheld. It seems to me that these reviews mean nothing if the same ref that initially called it is the one reviewing it.
Its terrible to think about the casual fan or channel flicker sitting at home and happen to turn on espn to watch. This sport needs all the help it can get. With all the stoppages and questionable calls, the rules need some clarifying. Refs have to be more consistent. There were around 30 refs there why not have a third do the review especially in the finals.

Derek, a lot of the inconsistencies result from whether or not the wrestler puts in the legs before the other wrestler stands up. If he does it is not stalling but if he puts in the legs after they stand up, the referee will call a stale-mate and the next time this is done he will warn the top wrestler. I did not see that many inconsistencies to this rule and actually thought the referees for the most part did a good job.

There has to be a rule change when it comes to putting your legs in as the bottom wrestler is getting to his feet. The act results in an automatic return back to the mat and then rinse and repeat. For one it's unfair to the bottom wrestler and secondly it's unwatchable.

I thought overall the refs did a good job. The big headed bald guy #5 was one of the worst. #42 was one of my least favorites. Angel Hernandez is an ass clown, needs to be put in a cage and throw away the key. He ALWAYS wants to be the center of attention, tries to ref the match totally different than everyone else. I know one of our "warnings" was in one of his matches.

I'm sorry...there is no certified referee with the last name "Hernandez".

easier fix trash folk style and go to freestyle

eliminates a ton a decision making for officials

Make takedowns worth 3. Escapes are extremely over valued.
or
Max 1 minute of consecutive riding giving the person that got the takedown a chance to turn. Then go to a neutral restart with no escape point awarded.

42 was terrible. The caution calls in prestons match were a joke and he seemed to have no control over any of the matches.

I wasn't fond of #48's stall calls on Austin's first loss, never seen a heavy get called like that.

I think freestyle is the best style to watch or to wrestle. The Olympic reffing wasnt rules interpretation but out right cheating which cost those referees their licenses. I do love folk style just not as much as freestyle. Heading to LV for the Open in April.

I like folk much better! But it seems that fan requests are going to continue to fall on deaf ears? There are so many ways to improve the sport for the fans, yet we keep the same stuff.

This is definitely something we agree on. I am for adding freestyle rules that compliment collegiate wrestling with more emphasis on standing up and less on riding time. Do not like the push-out rule and obviously we can not award five point moves to high amplitude throws which would put our collegians in physical danger. Strict look on how we award penalty points and make the rules more consistent.

It might be too hard to add points and take away points based on offensive Wrestling? I like the idea of one minute ride times with unlimited points for riding...but you have to get a takedown to take another attempt at another point of riding.

I also like adding an additional team point for the team with most takedowns. In a tourney, do like the top 3 or so.
