I just got home from the game. I thought the crowd was good but the game was really sketchy.
We won!
We should have won by 20.
Yor was good. Ice is not good at getting the ball to Yor at the right time in the right spot. Lindy is better at it, but not good enough.
Lindy shot well early and I thought was going to have a great game, but he seemed to lose interest or something after he missed that free throw and another shot. He as not great on defense and he made a ton of silly turnovers.
McGriff was awful all night except for his free throws at the end. He couldn't guard anyone all night and didn't rebound well.
Ice was average at best and Anderson outplayed him the first half in my opinion. Anderson was much more aggressive both offensively and defensively in that half. He did make a few freshman mistakes but I liked how he pushed the ball.
In fact, I liked how all the youngsters pushed the ball. They were much quicker up and down the floor and got some easy shots because of it. Not unexpectedly, they also made a bunch of mistakes on both ends.
I really like 20 Boone almost all night. 22 Boone did very little and wasn't strong enough to guard their 23, who is full blown man.
DZ was equal to McGriff is poor play. He did hit his free throws and made a 3 or two, but he couldn't guard anyone either and took some poor shots.
Laurent was not very good. He wasn't awful, just didn't do much.
I liked how Hidde moved, but he made some freshman mistakes and missed a couple of wide open shots. He needs to get stronger to play inside against D1 competition.
Team offense was pretty uneven all night, but that stretch after we built the 16 point lead was brutal. I haven't looked at any other threads or the stats, but it seemed like an eternity and we only scored 1 point. I think it was around 6 minutes or so. That changed the entire game because while their offense wasn't doing much, it was certainly closing the gap on ours.
When we finally started scoring a few points and got the lead back to 10 or more, we immediately quit playing defense and started making turnovers. Not a good combination.
At least we hit free throws down the stretch to hold on and that was the upper classmen.
I think Ice hurt his right knee a bit. He asked out and when he went back in he had a noticeable limp. However, Boynton made it clear he was staying in. It is a good thing because he was excellent down the stretch.
Overall we had a really fun night and I enjoyed watching the interaction of Bryce Thompson and the group of students, mainly Beta's, who were chanting for him. He seemed to really enjoy the attention.
That's all Folks!
