My analysis of Trump's SOTU speech.

Democrats hated the SOTU speech. Republicans liked it. I just saved you a lot of time in news and analysis. You’re welcome.

Same story every year no matter who is in office. You should thank me for saving you the time. Now you can use your more valuable time watching cartoons.
The only important fact in the SOTU is that independent voters overwhelmingly liked it. 73% that's huge and they are the ones who actually determine who is in power.

Personally I think a lot of them are people that don't pay attention or don't want to think through the issues and pick a side, but that's just the way it is.

Right? Who cares? Like it matters about anything?

I watched a little bit while channel flipping during the OU Baylor game. The SOTU is always an opportunity for the President's party to highlight successes and the upcoming challenges and needs. For the GOP, I think it was very effective in communicating their message, especially how the guests stories were used to illustrate accomplishments and needed work ahead.

The Democrats looked like pathetic road kill sitting on their asses.

Just like the past decade, I didn't watch a moment of the speech.

I'm sure that if Hillary had won, the GOP lawmakers would have been very animated and giving standing ovations.
If they sat there all throughout like the Dims did, they'd look like pathetic road kill too. But thankfully we don't have to worry about what they would have done if Hillary was president.

Got a source Sparky? That’s ridiculously high...

I was actually a bit surprised by this. I expected independent voters to be closer to 50/50.

It is a CBS news poll, so appropriate grain of salt required. I'm curious what other assessments of the reaction look like and I haven't had time to dig for any.

I'm weirded out by the 43% Democrat number. Probably Russian Bots taking the poll.

Fake image?

I have no clue - I just saw it posted in another thread and spent zero time verifying. I grabbed it because I presumed that was the source of headhunter's number.

And I'm not clicking another link to thehill.com. I think it gave my phone AIDS.

Really?

What specifically did Obama do to create that booming economy?

(I think Trump's tariffs have a chance to hamstring the current economy, fwiw.)

Current tariffs or additional tariffs?

The stuff with the washing machines and solar panels is small potatoes and unlikely to change much. If he keeps going I'll concede things could get interesting.

Old articles both... lets look at stats of '16 v. '17:
  • Labor participation rate at 62.7% in Q417 - the same as Q416. Even with higher demand, labor participation is stagnant as Boomers opt out.
  • Trade deficit swells +11% '16 to '17.
  • Avg job creation under DJT is 167k for '17 - under BHO in '16 it was 213k.
  • Stock gains roughly following a familiar trajectory. 24% S&P gain in DJTs first hear compared to 166% gains in the BHO years.
  • Federal debt +3 pts.
  • Food stamp recipients +3 mln
  • Consumer confidence down 4.1 pts since DJT inauguration.
