I'll leave it here for you civil rights experts to discuss:

"A lawyer says the son of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali was detained by immigration officials at Fort Lauderdale's airport.

Chris Mancini tells the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., that 44-year-old Muhammad Ali Jr. and his mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali, the second wife of Muhammad Ali, arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Feb. 7 after returning from Jamaica.

Mancini says officials questioned Ali Jr. for nearly two hours, repeatedly asking him, "Where did you get your name from?" and "Are you Muslim?"

Mancini says officials continued questioning Ali Jr. after acknowledging that he was Muslim. Ali Jr. was born in Philadelphia and holds a U.S. passport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they "cannot discuss individual travelers; however, all international travelers arriving in the U.S. are subject to CBP inspection."

I didn't say you did. Did I?

At this point, I'm not sure. :D

They shouldn't NOT stop him just because he is famous.

They shouldn't stop him just because he might be Muslim.

Both statements are correct, yes?

I'll believe it when there is video proof. Otherwise it is just uncorroborated BS by a 4th level celeb trying to get attention.

I really don't understand the need for a "hot take" of "this is all BS" or "this is the ultimate truth" at this point.

I'm assuming we're all going off the same information (the posted article), and it's incredibly weird the conclusions and assumptions being made to dismiss it out of hand or to accept it as true on it's face.

The nature of the Internet, I guess.

Good to know they vetting people who are coming into the country.

You're going to hear a lot of this kind of story we should just learn to ignore it. Every celeb or muslim is going to scream bloody murder if they are inconvenienced for one minute has long as Trump is in charge.

American citizens shouldn't be inconvenienced by being detained and questioned solely due to their religion. Not definitively saying that is what happened here, is happening, or will happen. I disagree that we should start ignoring stories that raise the question of whether the government is doing something it shouldn't.

I'm not ignoring it. Just call me a conceivable skeptic. Show me some corroboration and I'll take it seriously. Until then, meh.

My bet is the word Muslim was mentioned at some point in the conversation and that is enough to trigger the cry of bigotry for a lot of people.

Why should the word Muslim come up from customs officials detaining an American citizen re-entering the country? It's irrelevant. Government officials sking irrelevant questions about someone's religion (which is "your bet") raises eyebrows to me. Certainly not definitive proof of bigotry, but certainly questionable behavior.

How do you know Ali wasn't the one who brought up Muslim first?

if he was named clay like his daddy's momma named him clay he skates thru immigration

I don't.

You don't either.

But we do have Ali's report that it was the it was officials that repeatedly inquired about his religion.

But for sake of discussion, do you believe public officials would be justified in bringing Muslim up first when detaining a US Citizen.

Maybe so, but that raises a whole host of questions about the quality of the screen process along with possible illegality.

@Headhunter

I'll post the same two statements I did to @MegaPoke

They shouldn't NOT stop him just because he is famous.

They shouldn't stop him just because he might be Muslim.

Both statements are correct, yes?

Do you agree with both statements if we are talking about American citizens?

I do agree with those statements. Are those the reasons he was stopped or are you just speculating or relying only on the statements made by Ali?

Neither. I haven't given a hot take on the truthfulness of falsity of the underlying allegations. If you would have read my posts, you would have realized that...or maybe you did and are just being obtuse.

I was just asking for your opinion on those two questions. Don't see a need to do proclaim the absolute truth of Ali's claims or a certainty that it is a lie to discuss the broader question of how the government should behave.

As far as I can tell, you are the one speculating in this thread.

My bet is the word Muslim was mentioned at some point in the conversation and that is enough to trigger the cry of bigotry for a lot of people.

You are creating "alternative facts" to explain away Ali's claims. You, basically, created your own narrative.

would like to know if there was any of the celebrity "do you know who I am" attitude at the inquiry. Not saying there was but that's not uncommon. I can't imagine authorities not giving Muhammed Ali's son a wide path through processing. Maybe they were interested in what he was bringing back from Jamaica...really not enough information here to know much.

Muslim does not mean religion to me, it means people that are terrorists to me and unfortunately they have earned that reality. Religion has nothing to do with it, "Muslims" are the most active terrorists in the world. Could careless what their religion is, they could call themselves anything. Shame the "Muslim" world does nothing to stop "Muslims" from being terrorists. Could care less about their motivation. If "Muslims" would stop the killing, I would not think about them as terrorists and think about them being normal people, not normal in their religion. Normal people. When I think Muslim I think about terrorists cutting heads off, not god fearing people that love their brother. Watched a show the other day in which "Muslims"'in this country want extreme vetting because they know many "Muslims" are terrorists and killers. This is about who you are, not what you hide behind so you can claim racism or some phobia.
