Mueller was Granted an Ethics Waiver to Assume Special Counsel Appt.

Marshall,

You seem to be slow to take a position when news runs, so I don't remember how you spoke about this investigation a year ago...possibly nothing has changed.

That said, you certainly seem inclined to post about what would paint the picture of deeply political and possibly corrupt government officials and actions.

Has your view on all this changed or 'firmed up' in the last 4 to 8 weeks?

I would say nearly everyone in government, especially at the federal level, would need an ethics waiver to investigate someone else, in government or otherwise.

That Mueller needed, or got one, actually doesn't shock me in the least.
The question, though, is why won't the DOJ say exactly why he needed a waiver. Several others on his staff, in fact, did get waivers. The DOJ disclosed the specific reasons for those waivers. May be nothign, but it certainly raises eyebrows when they were specifically asked and did not comply with the request for an explanation.

Marshall, hear ya and have absolutely no idea. Unless it could be twisted into some type of investigative technique he used previously that would be considered on the very edge of the edge and he wants to repeat in order to get everyone he's investigating including Trump. Not disclosed would not show his future intended hand.

But hey Trump hasn't shown his tax returns so how could this be a big deal?

I wondered how long OP could stay on the sidelines. So has Mueller done anything wrong or is he just getting too close for comfort? Why isn't he doing a pretty good job of draining the swamp? He got some pretty compelling charges filed against Manaforte.

I'm guessing that as he gets closer to Russia, there'll be more GOP squealing about how unfair it all is....

I have no idea as to whether he has done anything wrong. That's sort of the point. If he hasn't done anything wrong, or with the appearance of possibly having done something inappropriate, then why be unresponsive to a FOIA request?

The story at the link is from Politico, you know, that notoriously ultra conservative online news/opinion site. A virtual fire hose of leaks are coming out of the Mueller camp.

Well is the claimed exception to the FOIA request bogus? What leaks from the Mueller camp?

Just kind of wondering why nobody cares that a putin-connected billionaire paid $6.3mm to GOP leadership. Probably just some more paper work.

FYI here is the rule he was granted a waiver for. Doesn't really narrow thing down much, but it is a start.
