Justice won't say why: https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/12/justice-mueller-ethics-waiver-russia-291707
The question, though, is why won't the DOJ say exactly why he needed a waiver. Several others on his staff, in fact, did get waivers. The DOJ disclosed the specific reasons for those waivers. May be nothign, but it certainly raises eyebrows when they were specifically asked and did not comply with the request for an explanation.I would say nearly everyone in government, especially at the federal level, would need an ethics waiver to investigate someone else, in government or otherwise.
That Mueller needed, or got one, actually doesn't shock me in the least.
I have no idea as to whether he has done anything wrong. That's sort of the point. If he hasn't done anything wrong, or with the appearance of possibly having done something inappropriate, then why be unresponsive to a FOIA request?
The story at the link is from Politico, you know, that notoriously ultra conservative online news/opinion site. A virtual fire hose of leaks are coming out of the Mueller camp.
FYI here is the rule he was granted a waiver for. Doesn't really narrow thing down much, but it is a start.I have no idea as to whether he has done anything wrong. That's sort of the point.
