Mizzou to the big 12

Possibly off topic, but what kind of a guy is Coach Brian Smith? I hear a lot of people talk badly about plenty of other coaches(no need to mention names here), but never anything negative on Brian Smith or John Smith for that matter. Where as we hear a lot of amazing things about John Smith, Brian is kind of a mystery.

I mentioned this in another thread. Mizzou has a different Athletic Director now than when they left the Big 12. That kind of thing makes a big difference IME. I'd support them coming back if only to make the conference more lively for wrestling. Maybe build in some significant monetary penalties for leaving again, or require a certain amount of years in the Big 12. Granted Iowa State, NI, and Wyoming are getting better all the time it seems. But selfishly I get a little tired of watching OSU steamroll the little guys and would enjoy some more consistent competition in the Big 12.

I agree. You can’t judge mizzou’s current admin for yesteryear’s faults. IMO, it makes us the second strongest conference, if we weren’t already.

Coaching staff has been far form “impressive.” That’s been their problem.
Ya. They are far from impressive. Wouldn’t suspect anything changes in the post season . They have qualifiers at 141,157and maybe HWT 197 and 149 might get in.

Mizzu seemed to indicate this year that they don't want their starters to have to endure tough competition directly before NCAA. I'd say they should be happy in the MAC, no one should miss them.

Well said. I meant on paper the staff seems impressive. Roselli did a great job with the RTC and Heflin, Steiber, and Lightner are very accomplished wrestlers. Something is missing and it is probably an intangible, unless it is just that hard to develop a first rate program. Are they just poor recruiters? Just wondering these things out loud. I am not trying to start a gossip column, but just expected them to be a bit more revered in the wrestling circles by now.

I bet OU will try to stop it . They will have trouble placing in the top half of the Big 12 .

Does OU get a veto vote? I have no idea how these things are decided. Like UALR not being allowed to join as affiliate because OU didn't want it, as mentioned in another thread.

I have no Idea. It is funny they placed behind North and South Dakota’s and the Iowa teams at Big 12 last year.

No earthly idea, on paper OU should not be struggling like they do. Roselli was high thought of and OU is actually spending money on the program. They simply haven't shown any ability to develop guys. It seems there recruiting might be on an uptick but if you can't develop talent it doesn't matter.
