I don't if there are any other Jon Krakauer fans here but I just finished his latest book Missoula which is a case study of the town of Missoula, MT and the University of Montana and their handling of sexual assault cases in that community. It was a very eye opening read for me. Most of the cases he talks about in the book relate to University of Montana football players. Several things stood out to me. One the number of rapes that go unreported vs. the number of rapes in which someone is falsely accused. Two the fact that rape is about the only crime in which the police in general tend to question the credibility of the victim immediately. Three, a huge majority of sexual assaults are perpetrated by a friend or acquaintance. However the most sickening thing was the fan base's almost unanimous support of the players even after one of them had confessed to the crime. It was a good read, but difficult. I've read all of his books and would put it somewhere in the middle.
