Millhoff

Yea... I hate it too! Kinda figured it was gonna happen. He does have his redshirt so he will sit out spring and fall and not lose a year.

Both tough kids. Personally I feel moody is more ready but that's just because Duffield is a true freshman.

I would like for OU to have a competitive team but they will not have one this season. Next year ASU should be in the mix.

Not just Duffield, but if I were Roselli I would redshirt every single soul in the room who had a redshirt left. But...I am not paid to make that decision. First year pass, gives him time to further recruit and teach his style to maybe become competitive. 3 top weights in good hands with Reed, Johnson, and Larson. Jeffries might be fringe. Don't see any other hopes right now for AA, or even really being competitive.

The cupboard is running low. Not Rosellis fault....Roselli will have to recruit hard and I mean hard. Recruiting OK is tough already with OSU. The departure of Milhoff don't help, but, it will free up money for next semester. I would say very minimum 3 years to be anywhere close to top 10. But I will say....and yes this is coming from the source....all the talk about Roselli being an upstanding guy is 100% correct. The way he treated Milhoff throughout this was totally professional and understanding. Hard to find a coach that would do that under Milhoffs situation, so they got a good one to right the ship!

Absolutely not. I have full faith that coach Rosselli will be able to bring in other great wrestlers.

I also think Roselli will build up the OU program but it is going to take 2-3 years. Sorry to see Ryan go and that now leaves Matt Reed and Clark Glass with outside shots to AA. Maybe the heavy weight but I doubt it.

I forgot Davion who does have a slight chance to AA.

OU will have a successful year even without Milhoff. It will not be on the same level as OSU, but we agree that will take some time. I disagree with redshirting for a better run down the road.

Rosselli is built to win! Period. If Rosselli can take the talent, he has in the room to the next level he will have Blue Chip Recruits lining up next year. I see two to three All-Americans this year and a top ten finish.

I hope it works out for Millhof I am not sure he has done his homework. I have a friend who’s son is at ASU, and I can tell you the Boosters are not happy! Zeke has to have a top ten finish this season, with a top-five finish, next season or Zeke could be on the way out. Yes, Zeke will have an All-American this year in Anthony Valencia if he stays healthy, but any High School Coach in the country could coach Anthony to the podium. I hear Zeke will be redshirting Zahid this year because he took an Olympic redshirt last year. I hope Zeke can pull it off and Millhof does well. We need to have the West Coast competitive, it is good for Wrestling!

I would disagree with you about Zeke Jones. I think he Is building a dynasty. I am sorry Milhof left OU and went to Arizona State. He will be a force there. From everything I have heard and read about Roselli I agree that he will build a good team at OU but it will take time. You have a friend that has a son at Az State who is not happy with Zeke. That is not exactly headline news that Zeke is going to be run off if he does not produce this year. I know he has a great assistant coach in Pendleton and they are recruiting in an excellent manner.

Might want to temper the pessimism a bit. Think Zeke is quite capable of developing wrestlers, and his history shows that. And, as Oberobo points out, he has Pendleton to help cover the upper weights, who I wish was still at OSU. Below is exerpt from USA Wrestling when Zeke became national coach.

"Prior to joining USA Wrestling, Jones served as the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania for three years. Jones coached Penn's Matt Valenti to back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007. Penn set school records for most points scored in an NCAA Tournament and having eight returning NCAA qualifiers. Jones was named the Rookie Head Coach of the Year by Amateur Wrestling News his first season there.

He served seven years as an assistant coach at West Virginia, helping coach three NCAA champions, five NCAA finalists and 12 All-Americans. He helped lead the team to three conference titles (2002, 2003 and 2005). He also served on the coaching staffs at Arizona State and Bloomsburg."

My bad, I did not do the research I was going off what my ASU friend had told me. Like I said I hope Zeke can pull it off we need good teams on the West Coast.

When you have a scholarship athlete not return, you lose that scholarship for the following 2 semesters. Rule they implemented in 2005-06 I believe. Milhoff's departure will sting for at least another year.

We don't need a good west coast team. OSU needs to be the defacto choice for any great wrestler west of the Mississippi. The warm weather choice for excellence compared to the B1G.

^ I suppose it prevents coaches from pushing out scholarship athletes to free up money. My initial reaction was well that's dumb.

I assume you are referring to APR (Academic Progress Rate) which includes a rule to try and prevent schools from flunking a student to free up scholarship money, The rule does not apply when a student withdraws with a good academic standing.

Now that makes sense. Ok. I was thinking that would seem unfair if a student transferred for various reasons and the university got hit like that. Thx

But doesn't he count in the APR for all 5 years now? Seems somewhere I read that once they sign a LOI they are yours.
