Made the switch somewhat recently.

I'm really happy with:
Feather blades. I guess they just know sharp in Japan.
Blades Grim Smolder shave soap. Good smell. Portable.

I admittedly skimped on:
Perfecto brush. It's actually held up really well thus far though.
Drs. ProChoice Butterly razor. Good weight. Also seems fine, but I admittedly don't have comparison.

I make my own:
After shave: it's a mix of coconut oil, frankincense, Myrrh and tea tree. I've never had breakouts or burn since going to this concoction.

Anyone have any sage advice?

I have been using a safety razor for about 5 years now. Hard to get quality blades in my town, but I don't think I will ever go back to disposable razors.

Man it’s the cheap way to go. And it’s a close shave. Any imperfections on your face will slice right off. For shaving soap look at proraso. Good studf

In the last 20 years I've spent just under $500 on three electric razors and two beard trimmers.

And since sport clips does a reasonable job trimming my beard short I may never get another set of beard trimmers.

All the money I have saved on shaving has of course been spent multiple times over getting my haircut every three weeks.

Love my Gillette safety razor. It’s a 1962 Slim Adjustable model that belonged to my Grandfather. I also use the Feather blades and if you have a tough time finding blades in your town, order from Amazon. Also, there is a good website board called Badger and Blade.
