I've never seen anyone react to "3 licks" like that guy. I got them a few times for fighting or talking back to a teacher. My parents used belts on my bare butt. That was one big paddle....

Yeah on Hale; it was the 3rd largest in the State @ the time I was there but Memorial was the richer school by then (class size about 750). In the 60's Hale grads were Mary Kay Place and Gary Busey. Schoonerman & I went about a buck fitty each then so were way too small and slow to be on the football team that won state in 73 vs Lawton Ike @ the Stool and lost the final to BTW in 74 at Skelly stadium. We'll meet up for lunch sometime

The thing about Hale & BTW is this; it was the early days of forced integration back then and we had a great principal in Soph & Jr years, then the school board chose to integrate Hale & BTW by swapping principals and a bunch of great teachers our Senior year. (BTW became the magnet school from this switch) We never had the racial violence at Hale that I witnessed in Jr Hi as a Northside kid at Grover Cleveland. Incidentally we had beaten BTW earlier that season but they mudholed us is the State final game
