Bottom line. Manafort found out the same thing as Al Capone and Spiro T. Agnew before him. It doesn't matter if we can prove you did anything illegal to get that money you still have to pay taxes on it.

The DOJ had already passed on prosecution. 90% of these cases are handled by the IRS in administrative court and deals are struck to make back payment.

Amen. One of my small business operations is nearly an all cash business. If I wanted to, I could easily fly under the radar with that money. But we don’t. I report every dollar of that income.

Manafort was associated with Donald Trump for a lot longer then a couple of months. This conviction was not directly tied to those crime although certainly only a true believer could possible buy the he was paid $9,000,000 by a foreign government who expected nothing in return.
Tax fraud involving 40M plus dollars is not handled as a administrative case. Neither is bank fraud which isn't even under the jurisdiction of the IRS. These are real crimes.
He was fired in August. He replaced Lewandowski as campaign manager in June.

The issue has never been how long he held an official post with the campaign the real issue has been whether he was a bag man for trump in Russia. He was still "associated" with Trump enough after the elections he had enough direct access to be making recommendations for cabinet positions and was trying to pimp his banker for a position.
This trial had NOTHING to do with that. This was about tax evasion.

Yes he was convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion. That's what the conversation was about. The true believers were trying to claim his only association with Donald Trump was for 43 days. Try to follow along.
